"The roof of my house fell after heavy rains last year December. I have been staying in a temporary structure since then. With 7 children, the situation is unbearable. The house is too congested. Such an environment is unhealthy for the children, particularly my 2-month-old daughter. With a zero source of income, building a new house is impossible for me. I plan to use 35,000 KES out of the transfers I will receive to build a new house. Receiving this money will ensure a decent life for me."

"I partially work as a charcoal burner to earn a living. At 65 years of age, I cannot be productive because I am less energetic. This translates to a low income. I make approximately 2,000 KES a month. This amount is not even enough to sort out my month's needs. It is for this reason that I have been unable to construct a toilet."

"It is only a matter of time before my house comes tumbling down. I look at it as a ticking time bomb. It started breaking mid last year and it keeps getting worse. My priority would be to put up another house and demolish this one. It could cost more than both transfers but I will work hard in my charcoal business to raise what will have remained. I am pretty excited at the thought. I cannot wait to transition."

"Receiving this money means an actualization of my desire to utilize the welding skills that I have by starting my business. I have been for the past 2 years employed to work as a welder in a nearby town. I earn a monthly salary of about KES. 4,000 only after making sales of over KES. 32,000. The employer takes a huge chunk of the profits that the business makes. Due to the rising cost of living I had appealed to them to review my salary but the appeal wasn't welcomed. I have then been saving money to help me purchase a welding machine and according to my projection, I will have raised KES. 20,000 by January 2023. However, due to your help as GiveDirectly, I shall be able to buy a welding machine as soon as I receive the first transfers. I will also secure a shop in town where I'll be storing the tools. I expect my first transfers to be spent fully on that. For the second transfers I shall use it to buy supplies and make the first products in the business. I am hopeful that by June this year I will fully be operating my business."

"Early in the morning, while I was still in bed, I heard some of the town's people rejoicing and shouting through the town that they have received transfer from GiveDirectly. I immediately ran to the network area to check my phone. Suddenly, I read a text from GD stating that I had received transfer also. At that moment I felt so relieved. I decided to immediately begin my house project."

"Honestly, I have not spend my transfer. I have collected my transfer but decided to save it. I want to have my money in bulk and start building my new house. I have been saving all my transfers for that purpose. In so doing, I have spoken with the engineers about the cost to get the house build. I have also been speaking with some workers to help me cut the sticks to build the house. I want to leave my Mother's house and move into my own. This is because of the challenges I spoke about not too long. My Mother has been forcing me to get marry when I am not well prepared to take a wife. She has been complaining of inability to help her in the house. The help she's referring to is to have a daughter in law who will help with some house choice. However, I believe if my house is built, I can take the woman of my dreams in through marriage. This program has brought me that hope. I am so happy to be eligible for this program and to receive this huge amount of money. I want to make maximum use of this opportunity to better my life and future."

"With the second transfer, I was able to buy a set of kid (Babies Goats). With this third transfer, I bought a Nanny goat. I also send some money to my children in Monrovia for school fees and up keep and saved the rest for my reroofing project. In the future, the Nanny goat will multiply and give me more kids. Once they are grown, they too will give me more kids and so one and so on. I will then sell the goats to sustain my family. This will be my source of income after GiveDirectly is gone. Our living condition has been bad. Notwithstanding, the roof of my house is actually leaking beyond repair. I need to change the thatch to Zinc. That has been my biggest goal and starting a Livestock business. I am so glad that these dreams are coming to actuality gradually. As you can see, I am building the fans for my goats and here is the Nanny and the kids Goats. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for this assistance. God will surely bless them."
