"For a long period, we had been living in a small house with my six family members hence we did have privacy as parents. When we received our second transfer, with KES 43,000 we began constructing a five-roomed house since our family is growing and we needed more space. We also used KES 3,000 in buying some maternity requirements since I was expecting my fifth-born child. With the remaining part of my transfer, we spent in purchasing foodstuffs for our family."

"Upon receipt of our second transfer, I purchased a dairy cow at KES 30,000. I had been buying a liter of milk at eighty shillings from a nearby town center which is very costly. We are so grateful that currently we have a dairy cow and we get a liter of milk per day we can use for consumption for my eight family members. I also used KES 6,600 in purchasing furniture for the new house I had constructed with my first transfer. With the remaining part of the transfer, I used in buying food for my family members."

"I spent a total 50,000 KES from my most recent transfer to continue building the rental house in my nearby center. I decided to focus on it because it is a project from which I shall be able to earn an additional source of income. When it is completed, I shall be raising a rent of 8,000 KES from it on a monthly basis. Consequently, in addition to my other earnings, I shall be able to comfortably support my family of 10 despite being advanced in age."

"When my daughters were married off I received many dairy cows as the dowry price. But all these were sold off for my medication as I have been in and out of the hospital have undergone a lot of surgeries. Therefore, when I received my first transfer I spent KES 20,000 on a heifer. This will not only be a source of milk and income for my family as well. Secondly, I spent KES 10,000 on clearance of school fees for my daughter in high school. This is because due to my health condition I couldn't afford to pay school fees and my daughter was in and out of school. Thirdly, I spent KES 14,000 on a barbed wire fence for fencing my homestead. This has helped to keep my poultry and home secure. Fourthly, I spent KES 4,000 on 10 chick layers and 10 broilers because they grow fast. Once grown the layers will be a source of income through the sale of eggs and broilers can be sold for meat. Lastly, I spent KES 9,000 on three bags of maize and KES 6,000 on the latest clothing fashion. This is because before, I used to rely on farming and the sale of sugarcane, bananas, oranges, and avocados for food and school fees."

"From my recent transfer, I spent 40,000 KES on buying two cows. Previously, I did not have any cow thus I was regarded among the list from my community. With the two cows, I shall be able to conveniently plough my farms. Since we had a prolonged drought that affected our crops in the previous season, I opted to spend 13,000 KES on buying food which could take us for 4 months. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for such an amazing support."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly is a life uplifting organization. I am saying so because, through the first transfer which I received from this organization, I was able to start a grocery business which acts as my source of income. Initially, I had no defined way of getting money unlike today because the business is doing well."

"Initially, when I received the first transfer, one of the things I did was construct a house. I did the blockwork and I ran out of money when I was about to start the roofing. In that regard, upon receiving and withdrawing the second transfer, I used the whole amount to buy roofing materials as well as make the roof. As of now, my house is complete and I am happy with it since it is very spacious to accommodate my family."
