"My life is different in that I started a small scale business of fresh fish that fetches well in this side since most of the people take fish as their favourite meal. This business has become a source of income to my household and a form of employment to me and other two people who help me in fish frying. I have a hope for each day as the little profits that I make from it gives me the potential to buy food to my family and even pay their school fees. I bought a cow that is soon calving and eventually will provide me with milk and ghee. The money that I have been spending to budget for milk could therefore be saved and used to meet other needs likes clothes. I managed to put one hectare of land onto sugarcane farming which I believe that in the next one and a half years will be harvested and add to my financial security. I stocked food in my house that will push me though to the next four months when the harvest will be ready. I am a person of worth and not a beggar. I can socialize with dignity and vigor. Thanks to GiveDirectly transfers."

"I spent 35000 KES of my second transfer on acquiring a cow that we are raising. To me, this is an invaluable investment because the cow will multiply. Thus, I will sell them to fetch more money in the future. Besides, I used 5000 KES on purchasing clothes for my family members. Moreover, I acquired maize worth 4000 KES for consumption by my family. Finally, I used the remaining amount on acquiring more stock for my shop. Having a shop means a lot to me and my family because it serves as a reliable source of income."

"My ambition has been to live a decent life like other people who are considered well off in the village. One is regarded to have a standard life when he or she owns a spacious iron roofed house, having livestock and at least getting three meals in a day. Currently, I depend on my husband whose job is to make and sell charcoal. This job is very tiresome and not reliable at all. With all efforts he has, we have managed to own a small iron roofed house and also getting at most two meals in a day. Receiving this money will mean changing our life for the better. I shall start a shop within the village because as at today, there is no shop. We shall use the remaining amount to repair our house and also buy two dairy cows. The income from these investments will sustain our family needs and thus make our life decent."

"GiveDirectly has improved my way and standards of living in many different ways. Before I received these transfers, I had no dairy cow for the family and I spent a lot of money buying milk for household consumption. This has since stopped after I used my first transfer to buy a dairy cow. I have also been able to connect my home to the national grid of electricity and now we enjoy electricity like any other family in the village. This has even motivated my children to work extra harder following the installation of the same."

"Were it not for the cash transfers from the organization I would have never been able to build a new house for my family leave alone buying the cow. The primary reason as to why I bought the cow is to be able to milk in the future so that means I will not be buying milk from sellers anymore. In addition to that, in the event that it gives birth in the future, I will have a chance to sell out some of its offspring and probably earn a few cash from such transactions."

"My life is currently different from how it was before I received the transfer in that, I now have a sense of hope in life. I feel I can plan something and achieve it. Now that I decided to invest in farming. I am now sure of getting good yields which will sustain my family for a long period of time. I also have a dairy cow which I did not own before. "I spent my second transfers to buy building materials which I used to build a new house. Previously I had an old and leaky house which I had been living in since the demise of my husband. Life had been hard since his death because the family spent all the savings we had for his treatment. As a result, there was nothing left behind that I could use to build a new house for a better shelter. Right now I am living in a better house. I also bought a cow which I hope will provide my household with milk. I also bought clothing for my children who nowadays dress smartly. Initially, my children had torn out clothes which they could not comfortably put on."
