My life is currently different than it was before in that I currently live in my own house where I am no longer afraid of rainfall. Previously, I was living in a small single-roomed house which was not only inadequate for my family but also leaky and uncomfortable to live in. Whenever there was a change in weather condition, I could send my children to my neighborhood in order to secure a better accommodation for them. This was hectic because I could help them wade over the mud, an experienced none of us loved. I thank God for GiveDirectly's financial support. I have now built a big house that can accommodate all of us

What GiveDirectly does well is championing for alleviating poverty through direct cash transfers in the remote areas. Through this, the communities' lives have greatly improved. GiveDirectly also provides adequate safety information for its recipients and as a result, the majority are not victims of fraud related cases. Personally, I have not seen what GiveDirectly does not do well.

I spent my second transfers to buy building materials which I used to build a new house. Previously I had an old and leaky house which I had been living in since the demise of my husband. Life had been hard since his death because the family spent all the savings we had for his treatment. As a result, there was nothing left behind that I could use to build a new house for a better shelter. Right now I am living in a better house. I also bought a cow which I hope will provide my household with milk. I also bought clothing for my children who nowadays dress smartly. Initially, my children had torn out clothes which they could not comfortably put on.

For so long, my family has been sleeping on the floor without a mattress and enough blankets to cover themselves. This is now in the past and I thank God since my family now sleeps comfortably on a mattress and have enough blankets.

At first, I thought that I will not receive my transfers anymore as everybody in the village had received theirs except me. When I woke up and saw a message indicating that I had received some money, I was filled with happiness as I knew that indeed my life was going to change. I then prayed thanking God for His blessings in my life.

I spent most of my first transfers in buying two cows. I took one of the cows to my father to pay my dowry as my husband died before paying my dowry and in my tradition, my daughter cannot get married before my dowry being paid and she is of age now. I kept the other cow since I did not have any cow. I also bought beddings for my family as we have not been sleeping well due to lack of enough beddings as we used to sleep on the floor and each one of us used to cover herself with one blanket and its very cold at night.
