"Before receiving transfers from GiveDirectly, we had no livestock in our household. We used to buy everything from eggs to milk on a daily basis for our domestic use. It was really hard for us to managed and sometimes we would go without them which means my children would miss their usual cup of tea at some point. As we were expecting the first transfer, we sat down with my husband and decided that we would start a saving plan towards the purchase of a cow once we received the money. No sooner had we received the at first transfer than we opened a common Mshwari account where each of us was contributing 1500 KES monthly and within no time it was enough to buy us two cows. Currently, we are producing our own milk which is enough for both our household use and surplus for sale. This indeed is the biggest difference in our daily lives."

"My additional plans for the next four months is to be able to continuously take part in a merry go round and finally be able to buy a dairy cow for the family. I will be able to sell the goats that I have and combine it with the proceeds from my merry go round to be able to buy the cow."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to buy livestock that I know will help me a lot in the future. This is a big investment for me since I will be able to sell the goats that I have and be able to buy a dairy cow that will help me feed my family and meet other family expenses. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for the support that they gave me."

received a $22 twelfth payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life that has happened over the last four months is that I have been able to make my monthly merry go round successfully without fail. Once I get the contributions next month, then I will use the money accumulated to buy a dairy cow. I have this urge of owning an asset of my own. This will definitely help me now and in the future when I will have to pay school fees for my child. I also have plans of starting a small business of my own and be self employed once I get this money."

"My additional plans for the next four months is to be able to save enough money to be able to buy a dairy cow. We are currently spending a lot of money to buy milk for the family. This is very costly while the money used to buy the milk could have as well been diverted into other meaningful uses for the family. I plan to do this through savings made from the monthly transfers and other income generating activities that we engage in as a family."

"My life is currently different from how it was four months ago because I am eating well as compared to before when I would have two meals in a day. I also now have my own cow that I get milk from everyday for my consumption and also selling it to the community and getting money for my up keep."

"For a long time I have depended on my friend's cows to sustain my family with milk as source of income. Livestock play a major role in children's education in my community. Now that I anticipate to get money from GiveDirectly, I am planning to buy four heifers which will provide me with milk to fend for my family in two year's time.
Moreover, decent housing contribute to the wellbeing of every child. This is why my ambition is to discard one of my old leaking houses so as to construct a better one for my children. "

"Purchasing milk for my tea business makes the operational cost very high. I have always desired to have an alternative source of milk to lower the costs. I will therefore purchase a dairy cow for that purpose. Apart from this, I will constantly supply milk in my village and in the nearest town centres of Bamba and Kidemu. This will mean an increase in my income, where I will be able to save some money for the future. I will also construct a house for my children because my single roomed house is too small for the eight of us. Besides, we do not have much privacy sleeping with our children in the same place."

"I am a poultry farmer but I have always wanted to do more of it.I have 50 chicken so far. When I receive this transfers I will buy 20 more.I want to fence my compound first using mesh wire so that I can rear more chicken since I practice free range kind poultry farming.I will also buy a dairy cow.The milk that I will get from the cow will help me invest in a village group that we do merry go rounds.Every month we contribute 1,000 Kenya shillings each to one individual.I will also satisfy other basic needs from what I get from both the poultry and dairy farming."

"In my community owning livestock is considered a sign of wealth. This is because they generate income especially during emergencies or when there is need to clear huge bills like school fees. I will therefore purchase cows and goats that will serve the purpose. Besides, I will reopen my small shop business that I used to run earlier. This will make it ease to meet my family's needs instead of depending solely on my husband. I will also be able to stop my charcoal business which is both illegal and it has negative effects on my health."
