How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life because of these transfers is that I now have my own cow which was a dream come true. I have desired to own my livestock but because I had a low income from casual work from ploughing in other peoples' farm. It was very difficult to raise enough money to buy even a goat. This is why when I got my transfer, I could not have spent the whole of it without fulfilling the one goal I have been waiting on. I feel so proud of the step I have made because when the cow reproduces, I have enough milk both for family consumption and selling to raise an income. I can also sell some to raise money for other needs of the family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I feel GD did well in sending field officer who are not rude to the field. They were very understanding and easy to deal with which was the best part of the program. I do not feel there is anything GD could have done better.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my transfer on buying two cows as an investment for my family. I have desired to have livestock but due to low income from casual work, I was not able to buy some. I also used part of the transfer to buy more building materials such as nails and iron sheets which I have used in putting up a new house. I had started buying materials with part of the first transfer. The remaining I used on paying school fees for my children so as to manage the balance they have in school. The remaining fees balance, I will be able to pay with my income

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I am operating a food kiosk as an investment and I was buying milk on a daily basis to serve my customers. My business is currently different because I purchased a dairy cow at KES 35000 through the transfer, which provides adequate milk for my business. The biggest difference is that I no longer buy milk elsewhere unlike before, and this has cut off the cost of milk that I was incurring daily in the business. I can attest that the income I earn daily has improved by a bigger margin.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was woken up by a message notification early in the morning. When I read it, I was excited and could not afford to sleep anymore. I had finally received the money that I had been anxiously waiting for. I was thankful to GiveDirectly for financial support.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I longed to have a cow to keep or any other kind of livestock, but I could not manage due to some financial constraints. When I received my first transfer, my dream of having livestock was fulfilled because I spent KES 35000 and acquired a dairy cow. I am now benefiting from the milk the cow is producing daily. Apart from supplying to the food kiosk that I am currently operating, I also get some for my families consumption. In addition to the cow, I am also in the process of constructing a house for my children because they have been seeking shelter from the neighbourhood at night for too long. I bought iron sheets and building poles to facilitate this. Lastly, I spent the amount that remained to cater to my families basic needs such as foodstuffs and clothing for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Purchasing milk for my tea business makes the operational cost very high. I have always desired to have an alternative source of milk to lower the costs. I will therefore purchase a dairy cow for that purpose. Apart from this, I will constantly supply milk in my village and in the nearest town centres of Bamba and Kidemu. This will mean an increase in my income, where I will be able to save some money for the future. I will also construct a house for my children because my single roomed house is too small for the eight of us. Besides, we do not have much privacy sleeping with our children in the same place.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Being a Christian, I believe that seeing a new day is not normal and I do not take it for granted. It requires the grace of God for one to wake up healthy. Every morning when I see my family strong, I kneel down to thank God. This makes me very happy and it motivates me to face all the activities of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Raising school fees for our children is quite a big challenge. This is attributed to the fact that we do not have a good source of income. My husband earns less than 10,000 shillings a month from his security guard job. This amount is too little to sustain six children. Besides struggling with school fees, providing other needs is also a problem.
