"Now that we have accomplished our goal of owning a piece of land, we can focus on how to develop the land or make proper use of it for the benefit of the family. My first aim is to heavily invest in farming which involve cultivation and animal rearing. I will start by buying a few chickens and later on move to bigger animals such as goats and eventually cows. This was not possible before when were still living in other people's land. How would one have the audacity to keep animals in other people's compound? It would be disrespectful. Animals are a good investment and I intend to keep as many as I can as the piece of land we own is big enough and there should be no problem finding grazing areas."

"Due to the drought, we must first buy food. The cost of food items is very high, recently the economy has been bad. We need to stockpile food such as maize, beans, rice, sugar amongst others. That can cost about $200. When we buy about 5 bags of maize, this can sustain us for about 6 months. Education is key to our children's education. I plan to pay their fees. I will use approximately $400. It will give me peace of mind, my children can then study comfortably continuously. I need to also buy clothes, shoes and start a small grocery business. I will start selling vegetables and fruits. All this will cost about $60. I currently have 6 goats and 3 cows. I need to add more goats, that is 3 goats. It'll cost about $150. As I wait for my livestock to expand, I need to also save the remaining transfer. To help me pay for school fees or buy food. This means my livestock numbers will also grow faster when not sold frequently."

"In the coming years and beyond, I have a plan to revive the dairy cow project that I used to have. Sadly, I had to let go of the project and sell everything to support my children's education, as I didn't have a reliable income source. However, I am looking forward to restarting the project with the assistance of my son, who has recently found employment. I believe this endeavor will provide a dependable source of income through milk sales, which will support my expenses during my old age."

"I started with basic farming, and now I am aiming to do even better by raising cattle. Using the idea that worked when I bought a goat, I'm getting ready to invest in cows. Cows are really helpful in farming and also they provide milk that can be used at home. I'm showing how determined and smart I am by taking this step forward and I believe it will not only benefit me but also my family as a whole. Thank you so much GiveDirectly, for your support."

"Despite having aspirations, my constrained financial situation hinders me from crafting extensive future plans, mainly due to the substantial school fees and current responsibilities that demand my attention. I navigate each day as it comes, drawing strength from my faith in a more promising tomorrow. Assuming things unfold favorably, I am contemplating purchasing a dairy cow and initiating a poultry venture."

"After purchasing a cow with a significant portion of my initial transfer, it unfortunately succumbed to an unknown illness and had to be slaughtered and buried. When I received my second transfer, I used it to purchase another cow despite skepticism due to the prior incident. I also spent $41 on a mattress to ensure a comfortable night's sleep. Other expenses included $20 for utensils, $50 for food supplies, $45 for new clothing, and $20 for farm inputs. Transportation costs were $10 for hiring a motorcycle to go to the shopping center. I used $100 of the remaining funds to support my nephew's new job and contribute to my brother's function at his home. I kept the rest for daily household necessities and supplemented my income from my cobbler job with occasional casual labor. With everything in place, I felt content and relieved."

"Since we don't own any piece of land here. We depend on casual jobs to buy food. It's important we buy food because have a shortage. We're sometimes forced to sleep hungry. Plan to spend $200 on food, clothes and other household items. We have 2 boys in secondary school. Paying fees ensures their stability in school. We plan to clear their fee areas and pay some upfront. That's approximately $300. Goats do well here, we need to invest in them. I plan to buy 5 goats costing about $200. They can be sold in the future to cater for our needs. I also need a cow, it costs around $200.We can milk for domestic use or sell them when their numbers grow. They can also act as an emergency source of income. Lastly, due to the poor state of our house. We plan to expand and repair it. It's too small for our family currently. This can cost about $150. It means we'll then have a good place to call home."
