How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Despite having aspirations, my constrained financial situation hinders me from crafting extensive future plans, mainly due to the substantial school fees and current responsibilities that demand my attention. I navigate each day as it comes, drawing strength from my faith in a more promising tomorrow. Assuming things unfold favorably, I am contemplating purchasing a dairy cow and initiating a poultry venture.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Throughout the entire process, starting from enrollment and extending to the concluding phases, the organization's procedures were impeccable. We were educated on the importance of safeguarding our funds, and every interaction was characterized by a sense of dignity and esteem. Right from the beginning, we sensed that our viewpoints held significance and that we were receiving the utmost quality of service. My hope is that the organization will continue to keep us in mind as time goes on.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Receiving funds from GiveDirectly was like a dream realized. I'm married and a mother to eight children, yet financial limitations had curbed my ability to pursue my aspirations. My husband and I rely on farming, with him also serving as a catechist at the church, to make ends meet. However, our agricultural income barely sufficed. Thanks to GiveDirectly's support, I managed to address the most pressing concern at the time: providing school fees for my children. This crucial need was met with $150. Additionally, I spent $200 to acquire solar lighting and phone charging, a move aimed at facilitating comfortable studying conditions for my children. The remaining funds were wisely used for food, alleviating the constant worry of feeding my family. The impact of this cash infusion on my life was profound, and my gratitude towards GiveDirectly's generosity knows no bounds. This assistance not only allowed me to realize my dreams but also bestowed a higher level of comfort upon me and my children.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer at around 4 pm on that particular day I was overflowing with joy. I proceeded to call my husband and told him the good news and this managed to situate a smile on his face. We immediately embarked on planning the number of things we wished to spend the money on. This is to say that I am most certainly more than grateful to Give Directly for the warm gesture and feel greatly indebted to you. This has made our life as a family much better and we want to say thank you.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
One of the biggest differences in my life today is that my children have been able to go to school and are studying comfortably since I was able to clear their tuition fees. Moreover, I am now able to harvest rainwater since I bought a bigger water tank which had been a challenge before due to financial constraints. I am more than happy and contented with my current accomplishments.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
On receiving our portion of the cash transfer at the top of our priority list was buying a water tank. This is given our desire to have sufficient clean water for consumption mostly during the uncalled-for seasons of drought in our area. Unfortunately, this was hard to meet due to the commitment to pay school fees and other responsibilities that come with having our eight children. My husband and I rely on farming as a source of livelihood for our family, though this is hardly enough to cater for our needs. Given this, upon receiving the transfer I used $210 to purchase a 3000-litre water tank, $200 to help me reduce the fee balance I had and with the remaining amount I bought foodstuffs. I am so grateful for the milestone that Gives Directly has enabled me to achieve.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
We are looking forward to a successful 2nd year of studies for our children when we receive these transfers. We will be able to pay $500 at the beginning of the year and this will give our children ample time for studies as we look for the other half. We will also invest the other $500 in young livestock that will be mature enough to be sold by the time our children join the 3rd year.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy that we successfully paid school fees for the first year of high school studies for my children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We are currently struggling with payment of school fees and it has drained us financially as a family. I have 3 children all of them in high school and their school fees amounts to $1000 a year. We were lucky this year because they just joined and we sold all the cattle that we had to cover for this. We have however exhausted our investments and we were worried about next year and how we shall be able to meet this expense. We are just livestock farmers and we have invested all our energy in this, the next option would have been selling the land but it's not a sustainable option. We are grateful for the assistance.
