"Even though I am getting old, I spend my morning hours in my garden where I have grown maize and bananas. I especially do weeding and harvesting while looking after my two goats. I spend my afternoon hours doing household chores before fetching water and firewood in the evening. Having time to relax in the evening after a tiresome day is the happiest part of my day."

"Receiving this money means access to education for my three children. I have a family of five children who need to eat and attend school. Three of these children are currently in secondary school. Over the years I have been depending on charcoal selling businesses to feed and educate my children. However, due to the long drought that is currently facing our village, the business is no longer reliable. The much I can earn for a month is less than KES 2000. This has made my children to be on and off school due to fee balances. I intend to use the first cash transfer to clear the current fee balances for my children which is KES 50000. I will then use the second transfer to buy 10 goats as an investment for my children."

"When GiveDirectly came for enrollment, I was already in the process of building a more permanent house for my family. I had completed the structure and the remaining part was to fix cealing and tiles. When I received my transfer, I decided to spend KES 48000 to complete it and paid for the labour. As a way of investing this money and have something that I will always use to remember GiveDirectly, I spent KES 5000 to purchase a goat for rearing."

"Receiving this money means my family shall be financially stable and food secure. I am a mother of 2 who dropped out of school in 2019 due to early pregnancy. I have been unable to secure any job. I spent most of my time within the homestead doing house chores and farming pulp onions because my kids are young. These onions earn me at least KES 200 per week. I sell them to businesswomen at the grocery because I do not have time to take them to the market. My husband works as a casual laborer where he earns at least KES 200 per day. This work is seasonal hence we cannot fully depend on it to vend for the family. Due to the kids, we spend most of our incomes and wages on milk and food this is usually KES 1200 per month. Therefore receiving this amount will eventually relieve me from these expenses because I shall buy a dairy cow worth KES 35000 and three dairy goats worth KES 12000. From this, we shall get milk for household consumption and the surplus for sale to earn incomes that will be used on the needs of my family such as school fees, food, and clothing."

"This money means that I will be able to build a house for my family. The house we live in is small, made of unbaked bricks and it's thatched with grass. So I will buy baked bricks and other building materials to use in building the house. I also don't have enough beddings and a matress. As such I will use the money to buy new beddings and a matress. On top of that, I will buy food because I lost my harvest to floods. I will not forget to buy goats to raise. I will sell them in future when they multiply."
