"The biggest difference in my life is that i have managed to put up iron roofed house that did not know that I would ever have in my life. I am now the most happiest person in our village because I was staying in a house that i was being rained on. I was so embarrassed but there was nothing I could because I could not afford to buy iron sheets and build a new house. I am now staying in a spacious comfortable house where I am not worried when it is raining and I am very confident when I have visitors because I know it will accommodate all of them, as compared to before that I could not wish to have a visitor. I also now have very comfortable seats to sit on, I no longer borrow seats as I used to do before."

"Buying a 1000 litre water tank at @$100, initiating a in poutry keeping project that will cost a total of $150 as well as buying a dairy cow for milking at $350 is what receiving this money means to me. The remaining part of my transfer will enable me to improve my house by cementing the walls, installing roof ceiling boards as well as tiles on the floor."

"Having a Safe and comfortable house has always been my desire. The one that we currently live in is in an unpleasant state - its roof is leaking and every time it rains, we are forced to seek shelter elsewhere. Its walls are also shaky. Receiving this money will enable me to put up a semi-permanent one and it will ultimately save me from the hustle and worries of having to repair it every year. I will also put part of the transfers in livestock rearing. Our region does well with livestock raising especially the indigenous ones. And that is what receiving this money means to me."

"My greatest desire was to build a decent house. This is why I gave it the first priority when I first got my transfers. Initially, raising enough amount to build a house was very difficult. I am a businessman, I collect and sell firewood. The little money that I was earning from this business was not enough to do a big project like building a house. I could only manage to cater for the daily basic needs such as food. I was left with nothing to save to do a meaningful project such as constructing a permanent house. I thank GiveDirectly for their financial support. The transfers enabled me to purchase enough building materials. I bought iron sheets and building poles. Without their support, I couldn't have built the house I am living in currently. It is a decent iron-roofed house that is spacious enough. According to me, the house is the biggest difference in my daily life."

"I am currently sleeping in grass thatched hut that leaks whenever it rains. Given the scarcity of grass in our community, its now a great challenge to maintain a hut. Having received my money, I was in position to acquire most of the required materials for constructing an iron roofed house which will relief me from the leaking hut. I am intending to start and complete the construction once I receive my second transfer."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is having roofed my commercial house that had taken over five years without us having the means to roof it. Prior to receiving this money, our only hope to roof it was to farm until we raise the money to cater for it."

"The biggest difference in my life is that i have managed to build a very nice spacious ironroofed granary to store my grains, I am sure of not running at a lose again as i use to. The granary is also very spacious that can accommodate many bags of maize comfortably as compare to before when I was using a very small grass-thatched leaky granary. My grains will in a safe place that I will not need to dry them out every now and then. I also now have enough cattle that I can sell when I have any emergency. "

"Building a more spacious iron roofed house at $350 is what receiving this money means to my family. This one roomed hut we live in accomodates my spouse and I together with our seven children, four of them are in their teenage stage hence privacy is limited in our home. We will then use $300 of our transfer to buy a heifer that will be our source of income from selling milk produced by it and from this, my family will no longer take milkless tea like we usually do, much regards to GD."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well in uplifting our lives which were miserable before enrollment. We have been able to provide for our families effectively, purchasing livestock as assets and most importantly, building better iron-roofed houses thus enjoying good shelter. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly does not do well."
