How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different because I am currently owning three cows which I would not have managed to buy on my own cost. One of my future goals was to have at least a good source of income. I feel GiveDirectly has fulfilled this since I will be selling milk as these cows reproduce. I also acquired new beddings through this transfer and replaced the old and worn out beddings I have been using for years. I purchased new wooden beds and mattresses for my family. It's a great joy to me because I now have comfortable beddings and also for my children unlike before GiveDirectly came to us.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well in uplifting our lives which were miserable before enrollment. We have been able to provide for our families effectively, purchasing livestock as assets and most importantly, building better iron-roofed houses thus enjoying good shelter. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent KES 17000 of my second transfer to buy a cow which I am keeping in my homestead. This is an addition to my already existing cowshed. My aim is to one day sell milk that will be a source of income to my household. I also have my children who are in school and I plan to use the income that I will be earning to cater for their fees. I also spent KES 4000 to buy a solar panel for providing lighting in my household. I no longer have to spend money on buying kerosene for lamps. I also paid KES 4000 to do shopping for my children and bought stationery as they resume their studies. I am spending the remaining amount to cater for daily household expenses and buying basic needs such as food and clothing.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I majorly practice subsistence farming as a source of income for my family. I currently own added assets in my farm in terms of livestock which are two heifers courtesy of GiveDirectly. If I was to get them at my cost, then I am sure it would have taken me years to save enough money to fulfil this. I thank GiveDirectly because their coming has enabled me to own these cows, which to me makes the biggest difference in my daily life. I know with time, they will reproduce and have many of them. To me, having them is a source of wealth and saving for the future of my children's education among other family needs.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the transfer notification early that morning. I was curious to know who could have sent me a message such early thus I went ahead to check. To my surprise, I realized it was a confirmation message that I had received my first transfer from GiveDirectly. I felt happy for I knew the money would transform my life better.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent KES 25000 of my transfer to buy two heifers to rear in my homestead. I preferred them since as they mature, I know they will reproduce and increase in number. I am happy that I will have milk for both household consumption and sales. I also replaced my family's bedding and bought a bed so that we can all enjoy a comfortable sleep unlike when we had old bedding, mats and lack of beds. I spent KES 17000 to accomplish this. In addition, I spent the remaining amount on household basic needs such as foodstuffs and other household expenses.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to get an income by purchasing two indigenous dairy cows whose milk I will be selling. This will enable me meet the day to day needs of the family such as food and allow my husband to concentrate on other issues such as the children's education.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is my best time of the day because my children help out with dinner preparations and other errands when they come home from school.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraints hindering us from meeting our needs has been our biggest challenge. Since we didn't get enough produce from the farm due to low rainfall, we have to buy food from shops. This affects the education of our children because we have to channel more cash to purchasing food which is a dire necessity. As a result, they are oftenly sent home to collect fee balances which might last a week or two to get thus missing a lot in school.
