". Life would have been very different had I not received transfers from GiveDirectly. I would not have managed to find money on my own to afford building a new house and put an iron sheet roof on it. Before receiving the transfers, I used to do piece works for different people so that I should find money which was not enough to save some to build a house as it was also not enough to buy food for a family of 8 people. Had I not received the transfers, I would not have managed to buy food, clothes and mattresses for the children. With the received transfers, my life has changed for the better as I am now able to buy everything thing I want at any time. I am very thankful for the financial support."

"Life has been different since I received the transfers from GiveDirectly. I have managed to buy iron sheets to put a roof on my house which was built in 2015. All these years, I have been depending on my vegetable selling business as my source of income and that was not enough to give me money enough to buy food for the family and to save some to buy iron sheets. GiveDirectly has differentiated my life as I am now finalising the project of roofing the house and soon I will have a decent house. I also managed to buy mattress and blankets for my 6 children and also bought some for myself and my husband. Had I not received the transfers, I would not have managed to buy all these things. I am very thankful for the financial support. May God bless you."

"As a single mother to my three kids, it has never been that easy for me to meet their individual needs as well as other crucial household needs. It has been a struggle trying to balance and ensuring that all the basics were always available. Over a long period of time, we had been living in a small flat-roofed structure that would give us such a hard time during rainy seasons. The construction of a new one after receiving the transfer was a priority as I needed a spacious one with at least an extra room for my children. I also managed to purchase a cow with 15000KES, school uniforms, and also foodstuff for the household."

"Receiving this money means my long time dream of have a better house will be fulfilled. I have a grass thatched house and it tends to get smoky when cooking. It's even difficult to cook when you have visitors. I plan to construct a iron roofed house. This means i will be able to collect rainwater. To get clean water you have to buy from the water kiosk within our village but it's not sustainable. I expect to cost around 200 dollars. My husband love chickens and he has always wanted to start eggs business. So when we get this money we also plan to purchase layers. This will help us generate more income and also household use. I plan to use 200 dollars of my transfer to buy them. The rest of the money we use for our personal needs."

"Receiving this money means that I will finally increase my dairy cow that I keep. The cow that I keep gives me about $60 a month. I use the money to pay school fees for my children but is not sufficient. Increasing another cow will bring my earning from the sale of milk to about $ 120. This way, I will be able to pay school fes and buy foodstuffs, leaving my income from my animal trading business for home improvement such as building an iron roofed sheet getting rid of this small grass thatched hut."

"I want to build a better and bigger kitchen in my homestead. The one we currently use is small and it rains inside making it difficult to cook there on rainy seasons. Receiving this money will mean a lot to me, because I will be able to build a bigger iron roofed kitchen amounting to $300 that will serve as an extra room for when we have guests. The remaining transfer will be used as follows: $300 for a dairy cow,$200 for food and clothing and $100 as savings."
