How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Life has been different since I received the transfers from GiveDirectly. I have managed to buy iron sheets to put a roof on my house which was built in 2015. All these years, I have been depending on my vegetable selling business as my source of income and that was not enough to give me money enough to buy food for the family and to save some to buy iron sheets. GiveDirectly has differentiated my life as I am now finalising the project of roofing the house and soon I will have a decent house. I also managed to buy mattress and blankets for my 6 children and also bought some for myself and my husband. Had I not received the transfers, I would not have managed to buy all these things. I am very thankful for the financial support. May God bless you.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly do well by advising us that the money is meant for the family and not just the husband. In most families, when we happen to be receiving social cash transfers, men tend to misuse the transfers on things like beer and at times lie to their spouses that they have not received the transfers because they misused it. This has not been the case with money from GiveDirectly as families were empowered to use the money on things to benefit our lives such as starting business or building houses which has seen our village transformed. Most of us now have decent houses. In my opinion, Everything done by GiveDirectly is done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the money I received to buy 8 iron sheets and 5 bags of cement as I am finalising building a house which I started building way back. The house was almost completed in 2015 but I had no money to buy iron sheets and other roofing materials as well as money to buy cement to finalise everything so that it should be a good looking house. After receiving the first transfers, I used all the money to buy iron sheets and with the second transfers I had to buy the remaining iron sheets and the bags of cement for it to be roofed. I have also save some money to be used when something is needed on the new house as I really want to see myself sleeping in the new house soon.
