"When I received the first transfer, I purchased iron sheets and poles to aid in the construction of a new house. The house I was previously living in was grass thatched and leaked whenever it rained. The water kept dripping on my sofa's and eventually the sofa's got spoilt. After construction of the house, I bought new sofa seats to replace the ones that were worn out. Now my house is more habitable than before."

"Every woman who has enough water for domestic use is a happy woman! When we started receiving the transfer from Givedirectly, a group of us decided to start a small merry go round group where we used to save some amount of the transfer. Every month, one member would be given that month's savings to do or buy something that is of significance to him/her. When my turn came, I immediately bought a water tank. Now I don't have to make several very tiring trips to the river and I use the time that would otherwise be wasted going to and from the river to work in the farm. I am so happy with the development."

"Since I received my transfer from GD, my daily life has totally changed since I no longer go around looking for different types of casual work to do as I have some maize which I believe will last me until next harvest. Unlike before, instead of doing any available casual work, I am occupied looking for water and pasture for my cow."

"I have been living in a grass thatched house for so long. Due to lack of enough rains in our region, finding grass to replace the old ones every year had become a big problem. This led to my house leaking during rainy season making it difficult for us to sleep in as everywhere would be filled with water. When I received my first transfers, I spared some amount and used them to purchase building materials such as iron sheets, nails, timber, windows and doors which I kept at my inlaws house as they have a bigger one. Finding a Mason has been a big challenge as most people in our village are building new houses thus making them charge higher prices. This prompted me to buy materials and keep them so that I will start building my house in February when most people are done building theirs. I am planning to use the remaining amount which I saved in paying a mason who will come and build my house."

"I spent my first cash transfer for paying a debt of UGX 1,100,000 and regained ownership of my land that I had mortgaged. I took UGX 100,000 to church as thanksgiving to God. I repaired my bicycle worth UGX 100,000. The bicycle is helping me in transportation of people and fetching water for household use. I bought beddings worth UGX 180,000. The balance of UGX 220,000, I spent it on food."

"I combined my transfers and that of my husband for some months and bought a water tank. We now collect and reserve enough water for domestic use. Before be bought the tank, we used to go fetching water from the river which is quite a distance and it is quite an uphill task to bring enough water for family use. I now spend the time that I initially used to make trips to and from the river to spend on more productive tasks like working on the farm."

"I have withdrawn the second transfer and spent part of it on renovating my son's house. This has improved its security and is safe to sleep in. I am no longer worried of theft cases as before. It is in proper shape, where my visitors can sleep. The stress of begging for sleeping spaces in other people's houses whenever I had visitors is solved. I bought a water pump and a reservoir tank that I am using for irrigation. I have a prime land that borders a river. During dry seasons, there is scarcity of vegetables in this community and schools around. I hope to supply them with vegetables and this will become an additional source of income and employment for my family."

"The biggest difference is that I now can farm vegetable for both domestic and as a cash crop. This will help me generate income for my family as well as put food on my table. Before, this was not the case. The vegetables could either die due to drought or eaten up by the goats and sheep due to lack of proper fencing. This has been solved by the new tank that stores water and the strong fence to keep the animals out of the farm. My farming has improved drastically."
