How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Since I received transfers from Give Directly I haven't been the same again. I built a food store which I now use to store maize and beans. Before the harvest would get spoiled due to poor storage. Now I never incur such lose again as I got a good structure in place.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
According to me, Give Directly did an amazing work by visiting us at our homes and enrolling us to the program.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I received my second transfers when I had no store to keep my harvest. I spent part of the money which I had received on buying building materials. The remaining portion I spend on buying a heifer.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Since I received my transfer from GD, my daily life has totally changed since I no longer go around looking for different types of casual work to do as I have some maize which I believe will last me until next harvest. Unlike before, instead of doing any available casual work, I am occupied looking for water and pasture for my cow.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was in the morning while I was taking breakfast with my family when I received a message. At first, I thought it was a promotional message from Safaricom but after reading its content, I was filled with happiness. I whispered a word of prayer thanking God for His blessing through GD.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I have been buying milk on a daily basis since the time I got married. When I received my first transfers, I spared some amount and used them in buying a dairy cow so that it will relieve me the burden of buying milk. I have been living in a grass thatched house with a leaking roof. It was so hard for my family to sleep during rainy season as all our bedding would get wet. I used part of the remaining amount to buy building materials like iron sheets, nails and in paying a mason. Finally, I spent the remaining amount on buying three sacks of maize which I believe that it will last us for some time and it is also quite cheap. I opted on this because buying maize flour had been my daily routine and it is expensive especially for someone like me who has no stable source of income.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Due to droughts we are currently experiencing, there is limited food supply within my household since i can't plant anything in my farm. Receiving this money means that i will be able to provide food for my family sufficiently. I will use part of the money to purchase a dairy cow which will provide milk for sell and some for consumption. The remaining part of the second transfer will act as capital for starting a cereals business whereby i will be buying cereals in the village and selling them in the market in town.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My usual day entails working in the quarry since morning till evening. At around 4.00pm, i gather my work tools and head to a nearby shopping center to buy food for my children. This is the time i am usually happy since i am able to go back home with food for my children and this motivates me to go back to work the following day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a widow, i struggle alot in providing for my family. My husband died six years ago leaving me with six children. It reached a point whereby i could not afford to pay for their school fees and they had to drop out of school. I do casual jobs in the nearby quarry. The money i get daily which amounts to 1USD is barely enough to provide for their needs and the only thing i can afford is to provide them with their evening meals. This is the biggest hardship i am facing in life
