"The biggest is that I have a permanent toilet that most people don't have in my village. Before we used to go to the bush to release ourselves which is not hygienic. We could risk getting water born disease. Sometime we could go to the neighbour's toilet and they were not happy at times, they could force us away and the only option was to go to release yourself in the bush. I am so grateful I have a good permanent toilet in my compound."

"The happiest part of my day is in the evening. My day involves setting out in the morning to fetch water for domestic use from a nearby river before being occupied with household chores till late in the afternoon. It is in the evening that I am relieved of some duties by my children after they're out of school. This is the only time I get to rest and this is happiest part of my day "

"The additional goal for my life for the next four months is to conclude the renovation of our house and buy a water tank. I will save the funds from GiveDirectly to finance the projects. I chose to prioritize on acquiring a water tank because it has been too costly for us to get water. Nonetheless, the water that we collect from the river is less clean and safe for drinking and other household uses. Hence, I look forward to harvesting clean and safe rainwater."

"I spend my transfer on a tank, furniture, bedding, and food. I have never had such items in my life. I have always wanted to own a tank because of our region occasionally rains and we lack water. I'm an elderly woman and I don't have the energy to go to the river anymore to fetch water."

"In the next four months, I want to help my husband as he tries to improve our dairy unit. We have plans of laying down pipes that will channel water from the river to the dairy unit to minimize cow movement which will see us have more milk production. The cow that we have is currently producing 15 litres of milk while it should not produce below 20 litres. Improving this dairy unit will ensure that we have more milk produced and this directly increases income for the family and enable us pay any bills that comes our way as a family. Combining proceeds from dairy farming and poultry keeping will see us pay school fees with very little difficulty if any."

"I spent my transfers to pay for a hairdressing course that I have always wanted to study. I have had a passion for beauty and hairdressing, and I know how to plait hair but I have not been so perfect in this. I have always felt like I needed to perfect this art further, by learning more about hairdressing and beauty. I used to sell water here in my village in Mlango kubwa until the month of August, last year in 2018, when one of the water pipes broke and it has not been repaired since. Since that time, I was just in the house taking care of my 3 year old child as I looked for employment elsewhere. I am grateful to Give Directly that I can now study hairdressing and beauty which will enable me to open up my own salon and a separate place for beauty where I can offer these services. Here in my village in Mlango Kubwa, there is no salon that offers beauty services such as facials, manicure or pedicure. I am taking a course in beauty so I can be the first person to open up an outlet that will offer these services."

"When I wake up in the morning, I start my day by cleaning the house and preparing breakfast for my children. Afterwards, I head to the farm to tend to my crops until noon when I return home to make lunch for my family. In the afternoon, I head out to the fields to collect firewood then go to the stream which is very far from home to fetch water. All this tasks are very tiresome more so for me because I am sickly thus by evening, I feel very happy after completing all my chores as it is the only time that I manage to rest."
