"When I received my transfers I spared part of the amount to buy building materials for completing my house which was half-way done with the first transfer. I used some of the amounts to buy two sacks of maize. It is usually cheaper to buy maize in bulk because it's cheaper and more efficient. I also bought and water tank to store water during the rainy season and save us the hustle of going to the river when the dry season sets in. I did not forget to pay my tithe, I always believe God blesses whoever remembers to give their tithes. I am a staunch Christian and tithe is a topic that is non-debatable, to me its like I debt I owe God. I then decided to invest in a heifer and a bull. I believe it will grow and add value to my home to buy giving birth and providing milk. Apart from that I also thought of filling my house by purchasing some household items such as furniture, radio, battery and a few bedding. It has been long since I bought clothes for my family. We have been wearing tattered clothes which were embarrassing but we did not have a choice. Finally, I gave a small amount of money to my in-law kids to buy their personal items. I am now proud that I was able to meet most of my needs and I feel at per with my neighbours in my village."

"Previously I used to trek a long distance to get just get a jerrican of water. We would spend a lot of time getting water and would hinder us from doing casual work which was my main source of income for a family. I managed to pipe water into my compound. We now have easy access to clean water every time of the day and I do not have to walk a long distance to get water which is strenuous and time-consuming."

"I spent my first transfer on purchasing a water tank. In our area, we have a challenge of getting water and to get this we have to travel for a long distance and are not safe for drinking. Due to my age, I am not able to travel for a distance so sometimes I am forced to buy. Having this water tank has assisted me to store rainwater. I also use the transfers to cement the floor of the small business house I had started. My son has bought me a posho mill and I did not have money to cement the floor. Thanks, GiveDirectly. The business is now running very well."

"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly is that I now own a business which I did not have before. Before Givedirectly came for enrolment, I used to depend on selling water to different people. This was always tiresome and the income was little and it could not cater for all my needs. Owning this business has now enabled me to meet my family needs on time even though it is still not so stable."

"I have the desire to buy a water pump which will help me in pumping water from the river to my farm where I have planted a lot of vegetables. Once the vegetables are ready, I sell them within the local markets where I get some little cash to keep my family going."

"My life is currently different from how it was because I managed to buy a lot of things I could not afford had it not been for the transfers. I bought a water tank which has been helping me to trap rainwater and store to use during dry seasons. I also bought a solar panel which has been helping me with lighting at night and even charging my mobile phone. I used to spend a lot of money buying kerosene which was costly since I do not have any source of income because I am too old to work."

"On receiving my first transfer, I bought a pair of oxen in order to help me in farming. Previously, I have been hiring from my neighbours who had them. The cost was however high with larger acreage, thus getting my own pair would greatly boost my farming and get robust yields. With the pair, I am assured of cultivating a larger acreage and to maximumly utilise my farm. I also bought an ox-plough so for the pair. Our area is constantly affected by water shortage and the only solution to this was to have a water tank for permanent storage. Thus I bought the water tank and installed in my compound. Once the tank is full, then I am assured of continuous supply for my household. I will no longer be walking long distances in search of water. I also bought some building materials in order to construct a new house for me and my family. I was previously living in a house that was small and could not accommodate us all. Very soon I will be moving to my new house. I paid for my children's school fees also so as for the stay comfortable in school."

"We had been constantly affected by water shortage in our area, sometimes due to prolonged dry spells. Thus getting better water storage would help me to curb this problem. Through the transfer, I acquired a 5000litre water tank which will help me in future for permanent storage and harvest water during the rainy season. To me, acquiring this tank is the biggest difference in my life, for I will no longer be travelling daily in search of water, for I will store enough."

"When my second transfers came, we approaching the rainy season. I decided to buy a water tank to help store water since water shortage in our village is a serious issue. We have only one seasonal river which is very far and dries out during the dry season. The tank would have saved me from the hustle of going to the river. I also spent part of the transfers to buy bedding. I have been sleeping on a mat and covering my self with old torn sheets. I thought it by buying myself a blanket and mattress I would prevent certain diseases such as pneumonia that I would have contacted if I could have continued sleeping on a mat. Apart from that I also bought a solar Plate which helps me a lot in charging my phone. The house looks brighter and I no longer spend on purchasing kerosene for the kerosene lamp. I also bought furniture, my house had only one stool. This made me feel embarrassed whenever visitors came to my home. I am glad about the help of Give Directly I was able to buy a few seats and a table. I am planning to build a house since the one I am living in at the moment is small and my kids are also growing and will need their room. I set aside a small amount to purchase building materials. I finally saved ten thousand shillings for emergencies."
