"Receiving this money means adding one dairy cow to my herd whose milk will be my daily source of income to support in buying other healthy food stuffs for my family. I also plan to purchase a 300 litre water tank that will be of great use of fetching water during rainy seasons."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials like timbers, nails to renovate my house which was in deplorable condition. I, later bought foodstuffs for my family that would take us a month's time since at the moment the biggest challenge we are faced with as a village is water shortage due to drought. With the remaining amount of money, I am planning to use on drilling a borehole since there is a shortage of water in my village as I had highlighted earlier. I believe this water project will be a profitable source of income because of countable taps in the area."

"Evening is the happiest part of my day since I always have ample time to rest from my busy day. When I wake up in the morning, I usually take my goats to graze, and when I am back home, I prepare my lunch meal and fetch water from the nearby water pan and this makes my day look tiresome."

"As a widow with no source of income and too old to engage in any economic activity, taking care of my grandchild who was abandoned by her mother has been quite challenging. I mostly rely on neighbors and well wishers for our needs such as food, clothing, water and her educational wants such as books, uniform, fees etc. It pains me that I cannot provide for her but am grateful GiveDirectly's timely intervention will ensure I give my granddaughter a better future. "Evening has always been the happiest part of my day. This is the time when I spend quality time with my family having spent the better part of the day away from each other. Normally, I am left alone at home to attend to household chores, while children go to school. My mornings entails a lot of work here and there. From grazing livestock to drawing water kilometers away. It is a tiresome exercise and am always longing for the evening part so that I can rest."

"Acquiring a motorcycle has been the biggest difference in my daily life. Since buying the motorcycle, we have been getting an income through the provision of taxi services in our locality. This income has enabled us to fulfil our families basic needs such as daily foodstuffs. Apart from this, I also use the motorbike to fetch water, since water shortage in our has affected us severely such that we have to travel for several kilometres. Thus it has relieved us of the stress of carrying water by ourselves over a long distance which is tiresome."

"In my opinion, I believe that the organization helped so many people in the community and so far I can see a lot of changes. There are those who bought oxen which they will use for farm cultivation while others tie them on driven hand carts which they use to ferry water from rivers which are located several miles away."

"I majorly depend on farming and casual jobs to earn a living and provide for my family. I had to struggle extra hard to make sure that the ever-rising household basic needs are met in my family. I lived in one grass-thatched house that I used to spend most of my time maintaining it regularly to prevent cracks and peeling off the grass to make our lives better since I could not build another one due to the scarce resource I had. I had felt ashamed of sharing a room with my grown-up children and making it worse was the efforts that I did not have to change the situation. My life is currently different than it would have been if I had never received the transfer in that I currently live in an iron-roofed house that has boosted my self-esteem in society since I am like anyone else and more so, I have a different room for my children to spend their nights in hence we are comfortable as the parents. I am able currently to harvest clean water from the roof of my house hence can't go anymore to ask for clean water from my neighborhood like before. I have bought a cow to add to the one I had thus I feel I have gained more wealth that with time will reproduce to give us more as a family that will stand as our security for any financial needs arising and the milk we will get from for both household use and sale hence generating more income. I currently have enough food in my store that I would not have gotten if it was for the GiveDirectly transfers."

received a $534 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my life is that I was finally able to support one of my family members who is an orphan by paying his school fees. I used to spend so much by selling farm produce in order to raise money for school fees payment and this was quite tough. I am also glad that I would finally build a better house in a comfortable place. Where we currently live is close to the river and gets so clogged with water during the rainy season and poses a health risk for my children and the whole family."
