"I spent 300 dollars on a 24 Iron roofed two roomed house because I had a grass thatched house which was tiny and in order to get access to clean water. I also bought a 30 dollars Woofer in order for play music because I didn't have one before and used to depend on my neighbors radio for news. I also spent 100 dollars on acquisition of a fence to ensure security. I spent 24 dollars on a sack of maize and 30 dollars on a jacket, a pair of jeans and a pair of shoes."

"As a farmer,it is very discouraging when I cultivate and plant my farm only to get little or no harvest. I depend on crop farming as a source of livelihood but long dry spells in this region has made it so difficult for me. Lack of rains lead to low crop production and lack of water for domestic use. The last harvest for example saw me get 7 sacks of corn from 5 acres of land. This is very little given that my children need food as well as other needs."

"I work in my farm for 4 hours in the morning. I spend the rest of the day around my compound doing house chores and later on fetching water. I enjoy the afternoon hours because I get to relax and interact with other family members. We relax under a shade chatting because the sun is usually very hot."

"We get water from very far and I therefore decided to buy a water tank to harvest rain water. This way I will not have to walk a long distance to fetch water and I can therefore use that time to do other productive work."

Janeth
received a $501 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is purchase of my own furniture because before whenever a church meeting was scheduled in my house I used to borrow furniture from a friend of which was a big shame. I have also bought a heifer which will be a source of milk and income for my family because I couldn't afford one before.I have also bought a Kentank which will help storage of clean rain water majorly for domestic consumption because the river water in our place is not healthy for consumption and buying drinking water is quite costly."

"My mom was a casual labourer and used to earn sh 300 for fetching water for our neighbors in the village. we were 6siblings and I was the second born in the family, my elder sister and myself; we did not finish our studies after completing class eight, I was to join form one because we were poor. I get so embarrassed to see my friends who went to secondary successfuly doing so well in life.I feel I should go back to polytechnic college to equip my self with Mason skills so that I can be employed and improve my life too."

"My day entails working in my 0.5 acres of land where I have grown maize during morning hours and use my afternoon doing household chores. This will take me until late in the evening after fetching water and firewood for my family. Having time to rest while preparing supper for my household is the best feeling as a parent. This makes evening the happiest part of my day."

"The biggest difference is living in an iron roofed house because I was struggling with payment of school fees for my kids whom most only finished form four. I have installed piped water which would not be able to access clean water."

Paul
received a $501 initial payment.
"The biggest difference that this money is going to bring is that my family is now going to live in a new house that is free from smoke. We will also be able to collect rainwater and hence we will have water to use. The farming will enable me to get food for my family and I can sell some of the products to get money. With the income from farming, I will be able to improve the life of my family, and hence there will be no poverty."
