Rebbecca
received a $464 third payment.
"I had bought some building materials using my second transfer so when I received my third transfer, I bought the remaining materials and used them to build a new house. I used to stay in a single roomed house that I portioned with curtain. It could not fit my family comfortably. Now I have a three roomed house. Very spacious. The remaining I spent on buying goats and some chicken for rearing. I am grateful for the money I received from GiveDirectly."

Eunice

"I used a portion of my third transfer to pay school fees for my child who is in high school because I did not want her to be sent home for school fees. I bought second hand iron sheets and chicken mesh which I have used to build a chicken coup where I am rearing chicken for sale and this is now my major source of income. The remaining amount, I spent on buying local breed of chicken to rear for business and also bought food for my family."

John
received a $465 third payment.
"There were a lot of walk ins in my compound being that I had a weak gate. I decided to spend part of the transfer building a new strong gate and currently, one has to knock for the gate to be opened. The other part I spent installing electricity in my house. I have some home appliances that could not be run using the solar I had been using earlier. The remaining amount I spent buying chicken and sheep that I am keeping and can be slaughtered when we have visitors. I am so happy as GiveDirectly has moved me from class “B” to class “A”. I have moved a step a forward in life. Thank you GiveDirectly!!!"

Millicent
received a $486 third payment.
"I spent my third transfer on completing my Poultry house, bought local chicks and chicken feed (28,000 KES) for income generation because I have noted there is market and this will sustain my family. In addition I invested in an MPESA business (15,000 KES) that is already running well for its size. I then added stock to my groceries business (10,000 KES) which I started early this year with just a little sugar and tea leaves . Lastly, I completed construction of our my pit latrine (10,000 KES) that we had started with our second transfer.."

Maureen
received a $469 third payment.
"I am a poultry farmer, so when I received my third transfer, I expanded it. I bought more chicken, this I do mainly for business purposes as this will help me sustain my family more comfortably from the profits I make. Some part of the money I used to lease a piece of land where I grow corn. Actually, this has spared me the headache of having to buy corn all the time for my family consumption and that money I can channel to other development agendas, and again being that I had constructed a bigger house using my previous transfers, I had to buy more furniture to make my house look neat. I am grateful for the money I received from GiveDirectly as it has greatly changed my life for the better. ."
