"Receiving this money means I will have a stable source of income. When I completed form four in 2008, I lacked school fees to proceed with college education I then resorted to being a farmer. Living near the river is a blessing but i have not had enough money to start up a irrigation project. I plan on putting my 2 acres of land under irrigation. I want to plant vegetables like tomatoes, onions and kales which mature after 3 months and sell to the nearest market. This will be giving me Ksh 10,000 per month and from this my family will have enough money for use. Installing the irrigation system will cost me 67,000. I plan on spending Ksh 18,000 in purchasing a water pump,Ksh 4000 on pipes,Ksh 15,000 on water tank and Ksh 30,000 will go to purchasing seeds, labour and fuel."

"For a long time, I have heard about giving direct support in the neighborhood. Your coming here means I shall be able to make my dream of living in a cemented house come true. I shall use approximately $600 to renovate and cement my house. I also want to add one dairy cow worth $250 because the one I have currently belong to someone within the village. Buying a dairy cow is a great investment to me because farming is not very productive now due to the nature of the soils here and the drought. I shall sell milk and earn at least $18 a month which will gather for my household needs. With the remaining amount, I shall purchase a water storage tank because I can collect rainwater from these roofs."

"Receiving this money would mean more income for my family. I currently depend on casual jobs which pay US$2 per day to earn a living. With Givedirectly transfers I would like to buy a cart and two donkeys for US$500 so that I can use them to carry water that I will put in 20 litre jerrycans from the river. I will be selling every jerrycan for US$0.20 and I will be able to make approximately US$7 or more per day which is way better than what am getting right now.
For the other US$500 I would like to buy ten sheep. I consider this an investment since in the next 5 years when my first born will be joining high school they'll have multiplied and I'll sell them to support me financially."

"Receiving this money means improved living standard in my household. This is because I am relying on casual labour which earns me Kshs.300/a day. This amount is not enough to cater for all my basic needs and as a result I find it difficult to live a decent life.I am planning to spend Ksh, 20,000 to construct a kiosk so as to start a grocery that will earn me a regular income, Ksh. 10,000 to repair my bicycle which I use it to fetch water that I sell to neighbours, Kshs. 20,000 to buy 5 indigenous goats at Kshs, 5000 each.
The remaining amount will help me cater for dowry."

"The biggest hardship I have ever faced in my household is the leaking house. This is because Iam a house wife and rely on subsistence farming which for the last three years it has not rained enough resulting to poor harvest. This makes me find it hard to renovate the house because the little we get goes to food.Sometime when it is raining I stay awake drawing water that has leaked from the iron sheets, a situation that makes me feel sad."

"I am lucky to have built two mud-walled houses after saving some amount from our casual jobs. Though we receive low rainfall in our area, it usually becomes a problem when it rains heavily since our clay soil makes the place a waterlogged zone and water browsing everywhere including inside our houses. To be receiving a cash transfer means I will not be rendered homeless again whichever the season since I will use KES50000 to build a new house and renovate the two houses by cementing the floors. I am planning to spend another KES55000 on my children's education. I believe the only to a bright future for my children is to educate them thus I will pay them their fees so that they will have a good time in school to study. I will use the remaining KES5000 on my household's daily basic needs and household items."

"My typical day starts in the morning .After preparing the kids for school my first task is to tend to livestock and then after watering them in the nearby Chepkulo river I set out to prepare lunch .After lunch I do abit of household chores then go out to attend to my grocery business shop . My happiest part of the day is during lunch time. I derive alot of pleasure when cooking lunch for my family."

"When I receive this money, I will buy an heifer costing $200 which will help me earn income through production and sale of milk in future. I will use $400 to pay school fees for my children for the next two years which will make me have some rest from struggling to find schooll fees and now focus on my developmental activities such as farming. I will then budget $200 to buy a plastic water tank to enable me harvest rain water. The remaining $200 will go to food and clothings."

"My normal day entails spending my morning hours in my 0.1 an acre garden where I have grown onions, pumpkins, and kales for domestic use. I spend my afternoon hours herding our one dairy cow and taking it to drink water in a river that is far from our home. Having time to rest and cook for my family in the evening is the happiest part of my day."

"I intend to build a better kitchen house .The one I have is grass thatched and it is leaking hence letting some water .An iron sheet roofed house is good and will serve me well. My current kitchen has poor ventilation and smoke has affected my eyes alot especially if the firewood has not dried up well. My plan is build a house of approximately 18 iron sheets .It will cost approximately USD 4500. The rest of the money I plan to use for my medication, I have a problem with my ears ,I am partially deaf and I cannot hear well , someone talking to me has to shout alot."
