"On the day I received my transfer, I was having high moments because my spirit had been in a jovial mood since the morning. I had no idea what was going on in my life, but I had a feeling it was a one-of-a-kind day. I heard a message notification around 4 p.m. while tending to my goats and sheep, and when I checked it, my joy multiplied. Receiving KES 3,050, which I had not expected at the time, was simply a sign that I was extremely fortunate. Without much thought, I planned to prioritize purchasing local hens and then used the remainder of my transfer to meet other needs, such as food acquisition."

"Being a subsistence farmer, my desire was to boost crop farming by purchasing oxen and ox-plow. I used KES 47,000 to acquire two oxen at KES 15,000 each and an ox-plow. Currently, I have completed training them and are ready to start working. Formally, I was using my hands to plowing which was slow and yielded a low harvest. In addition, I used KES 3000 to restart goat rearing by purchasing one goat as a future investment for our 2 kids who are yet to join primary school. I am opportunistic that they will be able to learn without any challenge after selling the animals once they reproduced. The remaining amount assisted us in purchasing food for the family since there is famine in our area."

"I am a consistent farmer and a single mother of four children. Upon receiving my second transfer, I thought of using KES 14,200 on starting a goat rearing project to attract more income. I knew that this would mean financial freedom because with it money is safe. I was unable to initiate the project before due to school fees and responsibilities. I then used the remaining part of the transfer in paying school fees for my children. I am so happy and fulfilled to have achieved a lot in a short time."

"When I received the first transfer from GiveDirectly, I was able to purchase a piece of land but I could not pay the whole amount needed then. When I received the second transfer therefore, I first paid the Ksh. 15000 owed for the piece of land. I also bought a dairy cow for KSh. 26,000. This will ensure we have an assured supply of milk for my family. I used the rest of the transfer to buy three young goats for rearing, hopefully they multiply and get the sell then in the future for a profit."

"I spent part of my second transfer on paying school fees for my two grandchildren who are in secondary schools. Being their guardian has quite been so challenging because I did not a stable source of income. It is my prayer and wishes that once they graduate, they will be able to secure good jobs hence eradicating poverty life. Additionally, I paid the mason KES 19000 to finish building my house which was still under construction. I am happy very soon I will be able to move into my new house where I will no longer face any hiccups like being rained on. I also bought two goats at KES 7000 that serves as assets to lean on in case of any challenge. I also cleared my medical bill since I was diagnosed with bilharzia a few weeks ago. I am now thankful and happy that I am doing so well. With the remaining amount, I bought food and nice clothes."

"I spent part of my second transfer on buying eight goats worthy of KES 20000. I choose to purchase them purposely for my children by the time they will be transitioning to high school, they will have increased in number. Therefore, I will sell some so that I can tell them to school. Apart from that, I bought two dairy cows at KES 30000. In a few months to come, I will start a business supplying milk in town and earn a living. Also, my children will be healthier because they will be drinking milk daily which will be a surplus in their meals. Additionally, I paid fees for my two children in primary school and I am so glad that they are continuing with their studies without any hitches. With the remaining amount, I bought food for my family and decent clothes for the children."

"The new goal that emerged recently is to own livestock more so goats. I purposely desire to have them on my homestead for my children's education journey. Paying their fees has been the biggest challenge and I trust that by having them, I will not have to struggle much to pay the fees because I will be in a position to sell some and clear the arrears."

"I spent part of my second transfer on buying two goats which cost KES 12000. As a farmer, I had yearned to have them for quite some time but because of financial hardship, I could not afford them. I opted for them because I am certain that in a few months to come, I will have many of them which will empower me enough to even achieve some other goals by selling some. Additionally, I cleared the arrears of KES 6000 for my two grandchildren who are both in grade five and six respectively. My dream has always been to see them get a better education and succeed in life. Finally, with the remaining portion of the money, I have been buying food for my family which is comprised of nine members. We are all grateful that since we started receiving the cash, we no longer skip meals like before."

"I have been living underneath a thatch roof house for a very long time. Due to poverty, I have not been able to change the thatch roof over my house and place a better roof. When I started to receive the transfers from GiveDirectly, I was so much happy because I could not afford to earn such amount of money to do anything better for myself. Through the transfer, I have been able to renovate my house and place a better roof over it which is iron sheets. I also spend some of the money to buy two goats, a nani and a billy. Through these goats, I will be able to earn more money to sustain me and my family in the future if they reproduce."
