"I spend the better part of my day doing house chores like fetching water, doing laundry and cleaning utensils. After preparing the evening meal, I take time to relax and reflect on a few things concerning my life. It is usually my time alone and the happiest part of my day as well"

"The money will meant building a house and buying beddings.
We are 3 people in my family, myself and my spouse with a 3 year old son. On average we make K5000 ($4.98) per month. Mostly we get that kind of money after selling our farms produce. Apart from selling farm produce, we also depends on piece work, for example I can work on other people's farm or drawing water at a construction place.
I have been living in the mad house for almost half of my life. This house is my second, after the first one was damaged by the rains a year ago. Those houses have alot of problems especially here, were we are close to lake Malombe. During rain season the moisture can most of the times raised up to roof level, cause danger to our life's.
The money gift will help me to build a house using bricks and I am dreaming of having an iron sheets as a roof. Also I want to buy duvet and a nice blanket as currently am using sacks as my beddings. Lastly I will buy clothes and shoes for the whole family. At the moment we can not afford to buy a cover up shoes but we depend much on flip flops.
I would like to send my gratitude to GD for the cash gift that I have been promised to receive."

"Receiving this money will mean that my children get quality education. When my late husband died I had to step up and provide for my family. I currently have 4 children under my care who are still in school. My priority right now is to pay school fees for my son who joined university this year. For his fees I'll use around KES 30,000 for his 1st semester, then KES 10,000 for my daughter's school expenses. The remaining amount will aid in purchasing a water tank worth KES 18,000, food and clothes ."

"Being a housewife, I was in my house doing my morning chores like preparing breakfast for the family. I had just arrived from fetching water at the nearby water pan. I heard a message ringtone on phone,I stopped what I was doing and check the it. I realized that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I felt very happy and immediately I called my husband who was at work to inform him about the receipt of the transfer. He was happy to hear the good news about our transfer which would transform our lives for the better."

"For a long time, I have struggled to look for clean water for domestic use. Considering my age (82 years), I no longer have the strength to walk long distances to fetch clean drinking water. Sometimes I'm forced to use water from a nearby stream which is not so clean and it brings stomach problems. Repairing the roof, purchasing gutters, and buying a water tank will cost me KES 50,000. The rest of the amount I will purchase a cow as a way of investment so that I can spend the money in more budgeted way."

"My typical day entails a lot of energy-draining activities such as fetching water and firewood 10 kilometers away from my home. The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I get to rest and also spend quality time with my family."

"Lack of enough money to satisfy the family's needs is my biggest hardship. My home is polygamous. I am the first wife with 5 children and my co wife has 4 children. We mainly depend on our husband who hawks water in town. The little he gets is not enough to cater for all the needs we have here at home. I involve myself in farming here at home but the dry climatic conditions here are not favorable for farming. Food security is the main challenge of all my needs."
