received a $478 second payment.
"I have been suffering from a big sore on my left leg for the past 28 years. As a result, I cannot walk for long distances and can not do heavy because it is painful.
Therefore, I decided to venture into dairy farming to fend for my family. So when I received my second transfer, I spent KES 30,000 on the purchase of a second dairy cow. This means increased milk production hence more income. Secondly, due to my health condition dairy farming doesn't require much attention compared to crop farming.
Additionally, I spent KES 3300 on a bag of maize and KES 2500 on 20 kilos of beans. This has helped feed my family for the past month and will still sustain us for the next month.
Furthermore, KES 5000 was used on purchasing a goat. This will act as an alternative milk source when my dairy cows are in their dry spells.
Lastly, I spent KES 10,000 on the latest clothing fashion. This has made my family dress more decently compared to before when we could only afford second-hand clothes."

"I have worked as a butcher man for the past few years. In a day I get KES 300 which is majorly used for food and household expenses. This job has been quite a struggle because I have to be accountable for each Kilo of meat I sell.
When I received the first transfers I used a part of it to purchase construction materials for building a new Kitchen. This is because earlier, I had a very tiny kitchen that could accommodate only four people and was built with old Iron roofs. So, when the second transfer arrived I used KES 20,000 to complete the new modern and spacious kitchen.
Secondly, I used KES 20,000 on a young bull. This is because it grows fast and can be later sold for a dairy cow.
Thirdly, I spent KES 6600 on two bags of maize. This has sustained us for the past month and the remainder will sustain us for the next two months. This has helped in reducing household expenses which were KES 300 per day.
The remainder of KES 1,400 was used on the purchase of two cooking pots and KES 2,000 on a three sofa set seater. This has made my house very comfortable."

"I enjoy keeping domestic animals because I consider them a store of wealth. I started off by raring goats until I had seven. I then agreed on a butter trade with another farmer who exchange for me the goats with a cow. I kept this it for about one year and finally it delivered a healthy calf in December last year. I was very happy at that moment because I felt already creating stripes in this business and very soon I'll have enough to be able to sell whenever I need big amount of money urgently."

"I have no new goal for now that emerged and I am grateful for the fact I have was able to accomplish the objectives that I had in mind. That was to buy a dairy cow and construct a decent house. All is well for now because I have assets that I can lean on in case of any emergency. Also, I am sleeping in a decent shelter unlike before whereby I used to seek shelter from my friends and relatives. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for empowering me and changing my life positively."

"I am a temporary peasant farmer growing maize and peas for my household consumption. Due to the dry weather conditions in our area, farming is no longer productive for me. I have desired to practice livestock farming, but due to lack of money, I have been struggling to achieve my dream. With this money, I can comfortably buy 10 goats for KES 30000. Goats farming is better especially in semi-arid regions compared to keeping cows. Therefore, receiving this money will mean a reliable source of income for me."

"Receiving this money means quality education for my children. I have a small business of selling cow trotters at Ganze center making 500 KES per day. Having a family of 7 people, a huge percentage of this money goes into domestic needs ( food & health care). This leaves me struggling to pay school fees for my children. To ensure my sons get good education, I am planning to expand my business by building a bigger structure and start selling more foods such as pilau and chapati. The expansion will cost approximately 30,000 KES. Hopefully, I will be making 500 KES extra. This amount will help me comfortably pay the tuition fees in time."

"I had 2 cows but due to drought, I lost one. This angered me a lot but luckily, in December 2021, we received some rain and we could get water and pasture for our animals. Due to this, my cow is now doing well and this gives me a feeling of happiness."

"Over two years now, our village has been experiencing drought. This led to massive deaths of livestock in our village due to lack of pastures. I have two cows and three goats which are the only source of wealth I have that I have been depending on. However, when drought persisted I lost hope seeing other livestock dying and knew that mine would die any time. Fortunately last year, December we received heavy rainfall for a whole week that salvaged our animals and our lives as. This brought a lot joy and happiness to my heart as my livestock survived."

"My new goal is to buy a dairy cow since I don't have one at the moment. After exhausting both my transfers, I am currently depending on my farm produce so that I can sell and buy a dairy cow that will provide us with milk for consumption."
