"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well to give us cash directly. For example, since I received my transfer there is happiness in my family. This is because through the money I was able to buy adequate food, and clothing and, build a better house. Additionally, I bought a Friesian dairy cow which is of higher quality and produces more milk hence more income."

"Since I got married, I had been buying milk for my family which has currently grown to seven members. This has been so expensive and has always been my prayer that I would make enough savings to buy a cow. I was grateful when I received the second transfer that I spent KES 30000 on buying a lactating dairy cow. We now have enough milk and no longer spend any amount on buying. I also bought three sacks of maize each at KES 4000 that we are still using to date as we anticipate the harvesting season of our farm produce. Since I had not budgeted the first transfer for buying clothes for my children, the remaining part of the second transfer saved this need since my children have been pressing hard, in that, the clothes they had were already old and tattered. All are now happy that they can dress well and not shying away from attending any catering with other children from the village"

"I have raised my eight children as a single parent with the last one completing school a few weeks ago. This has made me sell almost all the assets I had to pay for their school fee. As of now, I do not have any cows. I am also getting old, I cannot do farming or business like I used to do long ago. I depend on the older children to send me money for upkeep as well as doing subsistence farming of maize and beans. I plan to spend KES 40,000 to purchase one dairy cow, which will be purposely for subsistence milk production. For the rest of the amount, I will buy food and clothing."

"Our area is fairly dry, such that getting animals ( cow) feed can be a challenge, especially during dry seasons. We have been planning to construct a big store to be storing cows' feed so that we do not run out of it at any point throughout the year. We plan to use approximately KES 60,000 to do this. Our farm is also small,( half an acre)so keeping a productive dairy cow is the main economic activity one can do. For the rest of the amount, we will purchase another dairy cow to add to the one we already have."

"I am a father of two and when I received these transfers, I had great plans for my family. With the first transfer, I was able to buy a dairy cow and built a new house for my family. With the second transfer, I had plans of investing in farming and opening up a small business for my wife, However, when the mmoney came my wife insisted that she was going to make all the plans on how the money was going to be spent. I geve her KES 51000 from the second transfer only for her to flee our home leaving me with our two children. My new goal however is still on course and it is to be able to advance ny farming practices to ensure that we have maximum productivity from it. This will also supplement the income that I get from my motorcycle business that sometimes gives us very little or no income at all considering that the motorcycle is not mine."

"With the first and the second transfer that I received from GiveDirectly,I have been able to accomplish a lot that I am grateful for. Among them is the newly built house that we now live in and the dairy cows that I bought but most importantly is the piece of land that I was able to buy for my family. My new goal therefore is to be able to buy furniture for my house soon enough. I run a small business that was equally boosted by income from GiveDirectly and my plans are to be able to take part in a merry go round contribution kitty that will see me accumulate enough money to help in realizing this goal. I am looking forward to accomplishing this plan and doing much more going into the future."

"Yes, I have a new goal of buying some goats. I lost all the cows that I had because of the effects of drought. Buying the goats will enable start over again in rearing and accumulating wealth. The choice of buying the goats is because they can survive the harsh weather, unlike the cows I had."

"I am a small-scale dairy farmer with 0.4 acres of land. My dream has been to be a renowned dairy farmer supplying milk to a nearby cooling plant. However, this has been impossible because of the limited animal feeds for my three dairy cows. The grazing land for my stock is 0.1 acres and this is too small for them to graze well. Receiving this money means ownership of an additional 0.2 acres of land where I will be able to plant grass and hence sufficient feeds for my herd of cattle."

"Receiving this money means food security and mental stability to me.I am an elderly and sickly woman who depends on my children for provision.Farming which was my main source of income failed in the past 3 years because of my health condition and also due to crop diseases. With this money I plan to buy a dairy cow worth KES 40000. Buying a cow will facilitate the continuous availability of milk which boost my health status because of it's nutritional value ."

"Production and sale of milk is a stable source of income for many families in our region. This pushes me into considering buying a dairy cow with KES 30,000 of this money. This will help me tap more income in the future through the sale of milk. I will be also able to cut the cost of buying milk which had raised our cost of living. This will be a sign of relief and happiness for the family. My little income of about KES 500 daily is not sustainable for us. This only goes into the family's basic needs making me unable to build a better house for my family. With this money, I will plan KES 40,000 to build a two-roomed house for my family. The remaining money will go to buying food and other family basic needs for the household."
