How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
At the moment, I am working on my savings as I hope to buy a piece of land where my elder son will construct and settle with his family in the future. Even though I don't have a reliable source of income, I am keen on ensuring that I save any available coin that I get towards my goal of buying the piece.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
After the receipt of the first and the second transfer, I am glad that I have been able to accomplish a lot within a very short time. I am one of the happiest people in my village and appreciative of GiveDirectly for the work that was well done. The approach was so good that everyone needed to call back to the office to say thank you after a timely receipt of the first transfer. I saw nothing bad with the whole project, and I am hoping that the same will be happening in other villages that are still expecting to receive the support.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Since I got married, I had been buying milk for my family which has currently grown to seven members. This has been so expensive and has always been my prayer that I would make enough savings to buy a cow. I was grateful when I received the second transfer that I spent KES 30000 on buying a lactating dairy cow. We now have enough milk and no longer spend any amount on buying. I also bought three sacks of maize each at KES 4000 that we are still using to date as we anticipate the harvesting season of our farm produce. Since I had not budgeted the first transfer for buying clothes for my children, the remaining part of the second transfer saved this need since my children have been pressing hard, in that, the clothes they had were already old and tattered. All are now happy that they can dress well and not shying away from attending any catering with other children from the village

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was outside washing clothes when my spouse informed me that we had finally received the promised money from Give directly. Upon hearing this, my heart was filled with joy. I knew that we would finally fulfill what we had planned to do as a family once we receive the financial aid.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Before GiveDirectly came for enrollment, I had been so worried about how I would get money to use in building a more spacious house for my family. This is because my daughter usually gets rained on at night going to sleep in my in-law's house during the rainy season. Currently, my daily life has changed as I have already built a house and we're almost completing it. I believe that we will be living in this house by next month and my children and visitors will have a place to sleep comfortably in their different rooms.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I currently lived under one roof with my children where we cook and spend our nights in. It is uncomfortable welcoming visitors to my home since they will see everything going on right from cooking to where we sleep. Since my daughter is no longer young, she has always had to sleep in my in-law's house as it is uncomfortable to sleep with her under the same roof. When I received my transfer, I spent KES 35000 to build a spacious and more decent house. Using the remainder, I bought some clothes for my children and three sacks of maize for our consumption.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I live in a small grass thatched house with a family of seven. This means that my elder daughter has to seek shelter at the neighbor's at night. Any parent would be concerned about that. Receiving this money means a reasonable and descent shelter for my family. In order to achieve this dream, I will need to have 50000. Money that I have not been able to earn or save from the casual labour work that my husband and I engage in.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is my happiest part of the day. My day is divided into two parts, I spend half of it on casual labor, then the other half on my tasks. This really weighs me down and so come evening, I get time to rest and that is what makes me happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is financial constraints. My husband and I are casual labourers earning approximately 1000 shillings per week. All this goes into food. To make is worse, the casual jobs are not guaranteed. This leaves my family with a lot of financial strain.
