"Receiving this money will enable me build another house. My spouse and I have planned that since we have a thatched kitchen and with the scarcity of grass for repair from time to time,it will be better for us to build another main house so that the current one acts as a kitchen. With the amount that remains,we will build a poultry house and buy some chicken so that through this venture we can earn a small income to meet our daily needs."

Benard
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"My new goal is to keep improving my poultry farm. I will later sell some to buy a sheep for rearing. I will keep rearing both the sheep and the chicken and eventually buy a dairy cow. I know with livestock in my homestead, I will be able to earn a decent living. I won't be walking around looking for casual jobs to do. It feels good to manage my self and monitor my growth in the farming business."

"Receiving this money means realizing my wish of owning a cow for milking which i will buy with ksh 40000 of my transfer hence investing the ksh 60 I use to buy milk daily in a local savings group, and I will also be selling some milk to generate income. I will also spend ksh 25000 to build a kitchen since the one I use currently also serves as a bed room for my visitors. I also intend to fence my compound and add more chicken to my poutry that will supplement income from selling milk"

"The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months is that I began keeping poultry and I have seen tremendous income from this activity. The chicken has supplemented my income sources since I have been selling eggs and also chicken. Additionally, the chicken has provided good health to my family whenever they feed on egg products. I am no longer in financial crisis since I am able to sort out myself from this poultry farming."

"My additional goals for my life for the next four months is all set for poultry farming. This is one project that I feel can easily be managed and maintained and therefore the need for it. This project also has plenty of benefits which include eggs for both consumptions and for sale. Chicken can also be sold for money where income can be generated as well."

"Of all the projects which I have been able to start with the GiveDirectly transfers, the one which stands out and is so far bringing the biggest difference in my daily life is the establishment of a poultry farming. At the start, it looked small since I had only started with 11 chickens. In the last four months, I have seen the project being so productive and able to feed the whole family through the sell of the eggs. I still have a plan to continue expanding the project to better productivity since its management has not been that hard for us."

Sarah
received a $537 initial payment.
"I decided to clear school fees arrears for my children who are in secondary school using part of my transfer. I settled on this so that they would be able to study without any interruptions. Also, I bought some household items that I did not have. I bought some utensils and a cupboard to use in storing the utensils. As a way of improving my poultry keeping project, I bought a wire mesh to use in fencing part of my compound where I will be feeding my chicken from. I am now glad since I no longer practice freelance poultry keeping project which usually led to the destruction of my crops on the farm."

Hillary
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"The biggest difference in my life is that I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow. I was able to join a savings group when we started receiving these transfers and when I had saved enough money, I bought a cow. I am happy that the cow is a few weeks from calving and I am excited that we would have enough milk for home use and the rest will be sold for an income. I also have a few chicken that I rear. I usually ensure that I buy at least two chicken whenever I receive the monthly transfer and I am glad that the number currently stands at twenty-four (24). The eggs produce are sold and the proceeds are enough to meet some of our basic needs."

Chepkemoi
received a $537 initial payment.
"When I received my first transfer, I spent some amount to buy some building materials to use in building a spacious house for my family and a chicken coop. I bought some iron sheets, nails, timber and also paid a mason for this work. I decided on building a bigger chicken coop since I want to expand my poultry project. Building a bigger house for my family was my priority since we have been living in a one-room house and this usually deprives us of the privacy we need. Also, I used some amount to buy a heifer. When it reproduces, my income from milk sales will increase. I will use this money to cater for our daily needs. I used the remaining amount to buy food and clothes for my family."

received a $22 twentieth payment.
"Now having recovered a bit, I am thinking of investing in poultry farming so that I would have a reliable source of income after GiveDirectly ended. The next transfers, I will spend part of it to purchase building materials for constructing a poultry house. The other portion I will spend on buying some chicken to add some which I have at the moment. I opted for this farming as it is easy to rear chicken and requires less labour. Through the sale of eggs, I will earn money to support my family and also have some for food."
