How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it was in that, I was able to achieve most of my goals. I am so happy to own another cow and live in a spacious house which I extended with the transfer. This are the important things that I would not have achieved without help from this Organization.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What I loved so much about the work that this organization did in our community was the follow-up call that the officers were making just to make sure that we received the money. This was really amazing since we were free to report any suspicious issues after the transfer. We were also informed about everything concerning the program before the money was sent and the officers were also friendly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my transfer to purchase a dairy cow. I had one and decided to add another one since I knew that in the long run, I can benefit in terms of selling milk or even the calves. Apart from that, I bought clothes for my children and I. The remaining amount was spent on food that we enjoyed as a family.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now live a prestigious life unlike before. We all now enjoy the privacy we need all the time. Also, I am not afraid of receiving visitors any time since I now have a place they will sleep comfortably. Being able to build a decent and spacious house for my family using my transfer is a big milestone in my life. I would not have been able to fulfill this had it not have been for GiveDirectly.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was still early in the morning when I decided to check what time it was on my phone when I realized that I had an unread message. After reading it, I became so happy as the message indicated that I had received the money I had been waiting for. Having this money assured me that I would soon fulfill my heart desires.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I spent some amount to buy some building materials to use in building a spacious house for my family and a chicken coop. I bought some iron sheets, nails, timber and also paid a mason for this work. I decided on building a bigger chicken coop since I want to expand my poultry project. Building a bigger house for my family was my priority since we have been living in a one-room house and this usually deprives us of the privacy we need. Also, I used some amount to buy a heifer. When it reproduces, my income from milk sales will increase. I will use this money to cater for our daily needs. I used the remaining amount to buy food and clothes for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means financial independence on my side, in that buying two dairy cattle and initiating poultry farming is what i have in mind. This will ensure continuous financial stability whenever i sell the dairy and poultry products consistently.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Im usually happy in the morning whenever i wake up energetic in order to ensure all the plans of the day goes well especially now that my children fully depends on me. Seeing a new day gives me a chance to struggle as much as i can to ensure i provide them with their needs.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a single mother of four, there are many challenges i face day in day out, one of them being the struggle i go through in ensuring my children dress well like other children so that they won't be discriminated against, secondly supporting their education as well as ensuring they are well fed. I am a primary school teacher employed by the PTA and the income i get to earn each month equals to ksh 3000 which ain't enough to satisfy all the needs of my family. This is the hardship i face
