Stella
received a $528 second payment.
"I spent part of my transfer on farming. I used it to buy a barbed wire, poles and wire mesh to use in fencing my compound. I settled on this so that my livestock and chicken will not be moving to the farm to destroy our crops. Also, I spent part of my transfer to pay school fees for my children. I am now a happy parent because they were allowed to sit for their end year examinations. This an achievement for me since I believe my children will only have a brighter future through education. In addition, I spent the remaining amount to buy food and clothes for my family to add to the few we had."

Wesley

"I spent the money I received on buying a dairy cow. I had always had a desire to earn an income from raising cattle, to sell milk and to multiply them. Money gotten from selling milk will help me to meet household daily requirements and also to improve my home by building a new house. I need extensive homestead because of my growing family. I then spent the other part of the money to construct a poultry house and then bought some chickens to keep."

Linah
received a $253 second payment.
"My next plan is to revive poultry farming which had collapsed after my flock was swept by a disease. Chicken feeds are readily available and believe that it will be easier to manage as I have learnt best farm practises to keep the birds healthy by vaccinating which I didn't do before."

Caroline
received a $253 second payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life that has occurred over the last four months is the house completion. We had constructed a new house but we had not brought it to completion because of lack of money to do that. On receiving money from GiveDirectly, we were able to buy cement and bring the construction of the said house to completion. We arec now proud owners of a new house and we feel so much indebted to GiveDirectly for enabling us realize this dream. I was also able to start a poultry keeping business where I now have 15 chicken up from 3 that I owned before I started receiving GiveDirectly transfers. With the poultry keeping project I earn a total of KES 250 per week and still looking forward to improving it."

Dama
received a $547 initial payment.
"The fact that I now own some livestock, the goats and the chickens have totally changed my entire life. It has been my desire to keep them in my compound but because of my low financial status, I could not afford it. The little I was earning from the casual jobs was not enough, being a widow and a breadwinner it was not easy. I am now hopeful ad happier because some of the goats have started reproducing and this is assuring me of becoming wealthier in a short period of time. The goats normally reproduce twice a year and this was the main why I settled in buying them. With the chickens, I will start a poultry farm once they increase in number. These assets will be of great help to me especially in sending my children to school and when an emergency occurs I will be able to settle it unlike before when I used to strain hard."
