"The vegetables on my farm are currently doing very well due to sufficient rainfall being experienced in my area. I have been watering them throughout the dry periods and over the past two months, my job has been made easier as rain has been here regularly."

"We were blessed with rains this December, it had been a long hard year. It was refreshing to see our streams filled with water.
My first insist was to get back to the farm and plant some vegetables, maize, and a few cassavas."

"Receiving this money means access to clean safe water for household use. In our area water source is a challenge especially during low rainfall. We travel over 2 kilometers to get water. This is usually tiresome since the water include livestock. I am lucky that I have a motorcycle which I use to carry it however this means my daily income for the motorcycle taxi job that I normally do will be low and sometimes fueling eats into my profit. So when I get this money I will purchase a 5000-liter water tank."

"For the last six months we have had consistent rainfall. This means sufficient food for consumption and enough water for use. This has brought me happiness as I harvested a bag of maize last month that will last us about two months saving me the expenditure of buying maize meal which is our staple food."

"I am a widower with a family of two children. My wife passed on last month. She has been sick close to two years and she was complaining about pains in her stomach. Due to lack of money, she did not manage to seek medical attention on time. Later on, she was diagnosed with ulcers and passed on a month after. It was a painful moment for me and my two young children. From the time she passed on, life has been difficult for me because I need to prepare the two children for school then go to the forest to cut firewood for sale. This responsibility has made it impossible for me to go to towns to look for jobs because they have no one to take care of them. The firewood selling business earns me less that KES 1000 a month. This money is not enough to educate my children and meet their basic needs. My ambition has been to start growing green vegetables which I will sell and earn an income. However, due to lack of enough capital, this has never been possible. Upon receiving the cash transfer, I will use KES 50000 to buy two water tanks that will help in irrigation farming."

"I was on my way back home with my daughter from fetching water at the nearby water point when I heard the message notifications from my phone. Being illiterate, I hand over my phone to my daughter who checked the messages. After examining them she told me that it was the transfer from GiveDirectly. I was extremely happy and surprised at the same time since I had been eagerly waiting and I had great hope for the transfer from the day when we were enrolled into the program."

"I was able to repair my roof which was dripping whenever it would rain. When I received the transfer to buy 'mabati' and nails worth KES 950 and the remaining KES 250 I was able to buy my children some clothes since the once they previous had were had become torn and too old to be put on. Thanks to GiveDirectly our house no longer has any water linkages."

"There is a great improvement in my life after receiving my first transfer. My life was uneasy before I received my transfers. Being jobless in a pandemic of the Coronavirus, made life kind of stormy to me.
My family can now have enough food and atleast we are able to afford to buy Water for the family."

"Water is a real challenge in our area especially during drought we have to walk for almost 10 KM in search of water or order for water at a fee which is usually very expensive. I, therefore, bought a water tank with the first transfer for harvesting rainwater. The second transfer I spent on bags of cement for repairing my house. The whole house is not in good condition, the walls are almost collapsing while part of the roof was already blown off by the wind. I would not wish for it to fall down because it will be so expensive to construct a new one."
