"Hunger is the major challenge in my house. We currently are facing shortage of both food and water. I have to skip some meals in a day so that I can survive. "I am living in a small house with my husband and 2 children. I am lucking privacy because the house has only one room and the children are growing older now. It's hard even to undress my clothes in the house when the children are inside. We are facing drought in our area, there is no water and food. We are drinking salty water from a nearby borehole. Getting daily meals is also a problem because I have to do casual labour in order to eat. My husband is old and has lost eye sight meaning he cannot do any work but depends entirely on me."

"The challenge that I am currently facing is a lack of regular income. My wife and I rely on charcoal production as the main economic activity. The job is energy-draining and due to insufficient big trees, it is hard to produce high-quality charcoal. In a month I earn KES 4000, while in a day I require KES 350 to spend on food and water for nine Members, hence can not sustain the whole family. Due to this, it has been a challenge to save enough money to construct a big house. Occasionally when I hist visitors, I have to seek help from neighbors to accommodate them which is embarrassing."

"I currently face a problem of clean water. Water in this area is a big problem. The only source of water in this area is a water pan established by an Arabian who has a farm. The only problem with this water is not safe and clean. It's salty and drinking is by just the fact we have no other option. To find clean water here, one has to use almost 450KES a day for only 100ltrs. This situation has caused some of my children complain stomach ache."

"I have always wanted to have a source of water nearby for my family. I have been struggling all my life with walking long distances every morning to fetch water for use at home. Now that we are experiencing drought in our area, it is even worse. I walk more than 100 kilometers in such water. If I want to buy water, a twenty-liter jerrican goes for KSH 80, which is very expensive. I have always wanted to have a big water tank to store water and sell to others to earn a living from it."

"The first goal was to complete my modern bricks house that I had started to build with the money from my first transfer because being a widow and childless, as well as with the advancing age, I wanted to have a better and stronger house that even when I won't be able to actively work still I will be having a place to relax that is very comfortable and nice. However, the new goal that I did not have before receiving this transfer is getting a storage tank which is to help me store water since I have no one to fetch water for me."

"Water scarcity has been a nightmare for me. The water problem has persisted for 5 months as at now. Before, water was very cheap and affordable. I used to buy water at 10 KES per 20 litres. Currently I am buying the same container at 50 KES. This is due to the transportation cost. The nearest water point is approximately 4km away. I am forced to use the motorcycle guys to ferry the water for me. When I decide to fetch the water myself, I will take a minimum of 2 hours walking which is energy draining."

"At times i find it hard to buy relish and food such as maize is also difficult to have because during rainy season when it over rains, the maize plants either gets stuck in the mud or are washed away by running water. Another challenge i face is finding it difficult to buy soap for both washing and bathing."

"I was so grateful the moment I received my transfer. I left my phone home and went to draw water from the borehole. While there, I saw people rejoicing and singing songs of praise. I came home and saw a notification message on my phone. I couldn't hold my joy and I joined the crew"
