Daisy
received a $469 initial payment.
"Around 5 pm, I heard a message notification tone from my phone. I was from a casual job and was relaxing since I was so tired. When I check out the message I could not believe my eyes, it was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDictly. I felt so happy because I have never received such an amount of money before. I was wondering where to get the money for food. Everyone at home was so happy and we celebrated. I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow and cut the daily cost of buying milk. I went and withdrew the money the same day. It was one of the happiest days of my life. I am so grateful for the support because it has changed our living standards."

"The biggest difference in my daily since I received the transfers is the purchase of a dairy cow. This ensures an adequate milk supply to feed my family. In addition, the transfers have enabled my family to buy enough food that can sustain us for the next two months."

Julius
received a $469 initial payment.
"On receiving the first transfer, my household had made a rational decision to spend part of it on a dairy cow and to offset the debts we had at the school where our children attend. I was grateful that in the second week after collecting the amount from the immediate shopping center; I settled on purchasing a dairy cow at KES 35000. We had been having one, but we needed another one to boost the milk production that has been helpful for our household use and the surplus as an income-generating source to feed my family of six. I also spent the remaining amount on clearing the KES 20000 tuition fees for my four children. They are happier that they are not being sent home at the moment but enjoying ample study time."

"I used KES 10000 to pay school fees for my two daughters who had been sent home for school fees and used another KES 115000 to buy a cow for keeping. The remaining amount was used to buy building materials like poles in preparation to building a better house for us. The money came at a time when my children had been sent home for school fees and I was hoping against hope that I would be able to find a way of raising money to pay their fee. Well, my prayers were answered when I received money from GiveDirectly. Being a widow, and relying on proceeds from casual work in farming made it difficult for me to raise enough money to pay their fee. They would always been sent home for school fees and I was getting worried each day about their pwrformance. I am happy that I was able to pay their school fees and that they will be able to stay in school for quite sometime without being sent home for fees. The heifer that Ii bought was a living investment that I hope will multiply soon and be able to produce milk that will help me support my family. The decision to also build a new house was because the house that we currently live in is a very small and old house often invaded by termites and with a leaking roof. I have all along had the desire to build a better one but I just could.not be able to do it. I am happy that the dream could become a reality soon and I am looking forward to receiving the second transfer and being able to put up one."

Cecelia
received a $280 fourth payment.
"GiveDirectly did very well in our lives. We were using cow waste to rob our floor, but now we have cement to plaster the floor. They are best at changing lives of people who have no hope. They wish the best for us. I dont know of anything GiveDirectly is not doing well for now."

received a $470 initial payment.
"It was around 4 pm and I was outside in the fields looking after my cow as it was herding when suddenly my phone rang notifying me of a new message. I decided to check what it was all about and I was surprised to find out that it was an SMS indicating that I had received the promised KES 55000 from GiveDirectly. I was so happy on seeing this since the huge sum of money was going to change my life for the better. I then immediately went and shared the good news with my wife who was so happy on hearing about it too. We celebrated together as we gave thanks to God for the blessing."

John
received a $470 initial payment.
"Just after collecting my first transfer from the nearby shopping center, I spent KES 38000 on paying school fees for my daughter, who was transitioning from primary to secondary school. I was happy that this support came when I had nothing in my account and would have sold the only cow that had been providing milk for my family of nine. In addition, I also spent KES 6000 on clearing the arrears that my elder child had in her former school. All along, she could not collect her completion certificates because of that missing amount, but I am glad that she has them now and can comfortably use them in applying for other opportunities. I spent part of the remaining on buying household goods and saved the remaining for the other projects, yet to pick up when I receive the second transfer."

Viola
received a $470 initial payment.
"The transfer from GiveDirectly came at the right time of need. This is because the schools were opened yet I was still stranded on how my children would pay for their fees. I am a teacher by profession and a mother of three children. I was unable to raise the school fees for my children due to a loan I had from my employer. Therefore the transfer came as a big relief in my life, where I used KES 30,000 on school fees. I then KES 18,000 in buying a dairy cow to reduce the cost of buying milk daily. Lastly, I used the remaining amount on foodstuffs. I am happy and relieved that my children are all settled in their respective institutions."
