Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I was with my family members at around 9:00 pm and we had just had supper. I had heard people earlier in the day claim that they too had received their share and I waited patiently for my transfers. My children noticed how amused and happy I was and they were quick to ask me what amused me. I shared the good news with them and my daughters were happy that finally they were going to be able to have their school fees paid and they be allowed to pursue their studies further. The money came at a time that they had been sent home for school fees and me being a widow and relying on proceeds from casual work made it difficult for me to pay their school fees in totality.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving payments from GIVEDIRECTLY is that I now have peace of mind than I have ever had before. Receiving this money meant that I was able to reorganize myself and put my house in order. Having my children back to school and the buying of building materials have just made my life very comfortable. I look forward to receiving the second transfer and putting it into good use such that I will be able to have even more peace of mind. The amount of joy and happiness in my family is just immeasurable. My family will always be.indebted to GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 10000 to pay school fees for my two daughters who had been sent home for school fees and used another KES 115000 to buy a cow for keeping. The remaining amount was used to buy building materials like poles in preparation to building a better house for us. The money came at a time when my children had been sent home for school fees and I was hoping against hope that I would be able to find a way of raising money to pay their fee. Well, my prayers were answered when I received money from GiveDirectly. Being a widow, and relying on proceeds from casual work in farming made it difficult for me to raise enough money to pay their fee. They would always been sent home for school fees and I was getting worried each day about their pwrformance. I am happy that I was able to pay their school fees and that they will be able to stay in school for quite sometime without being sent home for fees. The heifer that Ii bought was a living investment that I hope will multiply soon and be able to produce milk that will help me support my family. The decision to also build a new house was because the house that we currently live in is a very small and old house often invaded by termites and with a leaking roof. I have all along had the desire to build a better one but I just could.not be able to do it. I am happy that the dream could become a reality soon and I am looking forward to receiving the second transfer and being able to put up one.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will lower my struggles. First, I have been going through a lot of hardships to pay for my daughter's school fees amounting to KES 25,000 a year. She is set to join form four and I currently do not have money. Give Directly's transfer will really help me out and I am much grateful for such a noble move. Secondly I have been yearning to buy a dairy cow to help me feed my children, grandchildren and other relatives in my household. This is a great chance to actualize my dream.
What is the happiest part of your day?
What brought me happiness is my maize harvests. In the month of January 2022, I harvested 2 bags of maize which I still consume now with my household of 5 members. I am grateful because I currently do not buy maize for domestic consumption compared to my neighbours.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Currently I am not able to speed up my land's preparation for planting. I am financially unstoppable and I cannot engage casual laborers to plough my land and therefore I am forced to do it with my own hands. I am really worried if I will make it done before heavy downfalls.
