"It was around 11 Am I was just at home relaxing when I heard a message notification from my phone. I decided to check out who might have texted me that day. It was a message confirming that GiveDirectly has sent me the transfer. I felt so happy and informed my daughter who was at home. We all celebrated with the good news. I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow because that was my priority. I went and withdraw the money the same day and started planning with my family members."

"It was around 6 Pm when I heard my neighbors celebrating that they have received the money from GiveDirectly. When I checked my phone there was no message from GiveDirectly. I had to delete all the messages and within no time I got a message confirming that I have received KES 55,000 from GiveDirecly. This was the happiest day of my life because I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow. I informed my family members and everyone was so happy. I stayed for one week and then went to withdraw the money."

Sharon
received a $466 initial payment.
"Purchasing a piece of land is the biggest difference in my daily life. This is because we lived on a small piece of land. we have always wanted to plant Napier grass for our cows. When we were enrolled in the program we felt so happy because this was an opportunity to invest in this. I depend on dairy farming and poultry keeping project, This earns me some income. I was not in a position to save since of the daily expenses and household basic needs. Currently, we have land we have started to plow. I will plant Napier grass for my cow. I will get enough milk and cut the daily cost of buying feeds which is so expensive. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a dairy cow. I always buy milk daily and this is so costly for me. I do not have an income-generating activity at home I do small-scale farming a home. Majorly I depend on my spouse to provide for the family. He does casual jobs in the village and the amount of money that he gets is so small. We were not able to purchase a dairy cow. Currently, we are so happy because we one a heifer. This has given us hope since when it reproduces in the next few months I will get enough milk. I will cut the daily cost of buying milk daily which is so costly. GiveDirectly has changed our living standard to be much better than before. I have devoted much of my time to this dairy project."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the improved production of milk and hence an additional source of income after buying a lactating dairy cow. I am happy that this has changed a lot in my family since the proceeds from milk meets all the household bills, and we no longer have to reduce the stock in our retail business."

Kahindi
received an initial payment.
"We bought beddings worth Kes 16000 and bought 1 male cow at KES 16000. The remaining amount was used to buy food and to pay school fees for my children. The decision to buy an oxen was so that I will be able to put more land under agriculture and do so in a much more easier way. The oxen will also enable me to do farming in the neighbourhood for an income. This will make me more financially independent and put me in a position to meet the needs of my family much more easily."

Alice
received an initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is the dairy cow that I bought with the transfers. This dairy cow has brought a lot of difference in my life in that we now have enough milk supply for consumption and even have enough to sell as well to meet other basic household needs. This dairy cow has been a game changer to me in my family and we are looking forward to having more milk supply once it has a new baby calf. This will see us have more milk supply and better the living standards of our family."

"The biggest difference in my life is the fact I was able to buy a dairy cow and is almost calfing and very soon we won't be buying milk as we have been doing. This will not only reduce the cost of living but shall be a great source of protein to my family through the milk that we will consume"

Zawadi
received a $10 initial payment.
"All I had before Give Directly arrived in my village was a strong desire to start raising livestock. Due to my physical condition, I was unable to raise funds to purchase the animals. However, the transfer made this dream a reality by allowing me to obtain my first hen. Thanks to the transfers, I hope to expand the practice to goats and cows in the future."
