Jumwa
received a $457 second payment.
"Upon withdrawing the second transfer, I wanted not only to invest in something but ensure it also makes a mark or a symbol for remembering GiveDirectly. Therefore, I bought six goats for KES 24000.00. I chose goats over cows because they are more resistant to drought. Thereafter, I bought a standard modern bed and a mattress for KES 8000.00 because I used to sleep on a traditional bed with a torn mat. I also paid KES 6000.00 for school fees for my two children who were almost to be sent out of school due to school fees. Since they had tattered school uniforms, I bought two pairs for each one amounting to KES 2000.00. Thereafter, I bought five bales of maize flour for KES 6000.00 to ensure food security at home and saved the remaining amount."

Zawadi
received a $457 second payment.
"My new goal is to invest more in livestock specifically goats. This is because goats can survive without water for a longer time compared to cows. Goats also have a ready market and they can be easily converted into monetary value since they are not expensive like cows. Through this investment, I will be able to cater to my children's education."

Joseph
received a $442 second payment.
"My new goal is to be able to settle down in a farm that I recently bought. Having received the first and the second transfer, I bought a piece of land away from the place I was staying in and I also bought two cows for keeping. What was left is fir me to build a new house in it before I can relocate and stay there. This is one of my key goal and I plan to use KES 15000 that I had saved from my casual work to do this. This money may not be enough but it will have given me a big boost in terms of starting off. I am so much grateful to GiveDirectly for enabling me realize my dream of owning a piece of land and for the living assets that I have been able to buy too."

Winny
received a $442 second payment.
"GiveDirectly Does well in that they conduct the mobilization well and the training as well. Most of the people who received the transfer spent it well. Some have built better houses while others have bought dairy cows among other noble activities that changed the entire community. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly did very well by giving us the freedom to choose what to spend the money on. Looking at my new house and the dairy cow that I bought just makes me happy. I owe GiveDirectly a huge debt of gratitude for the unconditional support they offered to us."

Wesley
received a $442 second payment.
"I used KES 35000 to buy a dairy cow and used another KES 20000 to pay school fees for my two twin children who just joined secondary school recently. Had I not received money from GiveDirectly then we would have been dealt a blow because the farm produce that we normally rely on to meet such expenses had done very poorly due to unfavourable weather conditions then. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly that they came to my rescue and has given me an opportunity to prepare well even for the other two children who are soon joining secondary school as well. My wife and I have been relying entirely on farming to make ends meet but we have plans already to make sure that we have an alternative source of income through business."

Chepkemoi
received a $442 second payment.
"I bought a dairy cow with the money which I received from GiveDirectly and through the sale of milk, I have been getting money that enables me to pay school fees for my children. When I started receiving income from selling milk, payment of school fees became easier and I no longer have stress like before. I had moved my children to a private primary school but then I used to struggle a lot to raise school fees. My goal is to see that my children get the best education so that they can be successful in the future."

Gladys
received a $442 second payment.
"At the moment we have four cows which are local breeds and the milk production hasn't increased even after we added more feeds and adopted modern ways of feeding livestock. We have these cows in zero grazing units but we do not get a high yield as expected. We intend to buy exotic breeds which are high yielding so that we can have more milk for sale. Our goal is to have at least one cow by end of this year. We are thinking of selling all that we have so that we can acquire a new breed that can give us a high yield."

Cyrus
received a $442 second payment.
"I used KES 32000 to buy a dairy cow and used the remaining amount to buy household furniture and my own clothes. I chose to buy a dairy cow since for a long time we have had to buy milk and the amount of money that we normally spend on milk is way too high. Getting a dairy cow means that I will be able to have extra income through sale of milk and with this I will be able to easily make ends meet too."
