"Getting food and fresh water for drinking is the biggest challenge I am expiriencing.. We are expiriencing drought spell for over 3 years now and all the water pans have dried. I depend on the business of charcoal burning inorder to put food in the table. There's is no water in our area and we have to hire motorcycle operators to bring water from a distance of 10 kilometres. It costs 100 KES for a 20 litres jerican of water which is very expensive to me because the job I depend on does not give me much than getting a packet of maize flour and it is also very straneous . Sometimes I end up getting food but still goes to bed hungry because of luck of water to cook the food."

"Having a decent and spacious kitchen had been my desire since I did not have one and when I received my transfer, I spent KES 25000 on the purchase of a doorframe, two pieces of windows, enough poles, and 15 pieces of iron sheets. I am happy that the construction has already started and I will be able to start using my new kitchen very soon. In addition to this, I spent KES 10000 to pay school fees for my daughter who is in secondary school to avoid her being sent back home and spent KES 13000 on medical expenses for my son who had been involved in a motorcycle accident and I am happy that he was able to get the needed treatment. Using the remaining KES 6000, I bought one sack of maize and other foodstuffs for my family."

"My biggest dream in life has been to own a tailoring business. I was unable to achieve this before because I did not have enough knowledge and skills. I am unemployed and was unable to raise fees to enrol in a college for the same. So I was happy to receive this transfer. I spent KES 39,000 on paying college fees for a tailoring course. I believe that this will equip me with the necessary skills to run a business, efficiently. I also acquired 3 goats worth KES 10,500. I hope to sell this later on when financial emergencies arise. Lastly, I spent KES 5,000 on the purchase of foodstuff, including flour, rice, beans and wheat. I needed to ensure that we had enough food for the household for all four family members."

"With the only cow I had been having, I have always experienced dry seasons where I was forced to buy milk from the neighborhood. This struggle had been pushing me to think about how best I can obtain another lactating cow and has never been possible until recently when I received the transfers. I managed to obtain one at KES30000 and am now feeling covered as I will be alternating their breeding schedule through Artificial Insemination. I also had a new house that needed a new piece of furniture. I spent KES 12000 on chairs and a table making the interior part of the house looks good at the moment. I also obtained a medium-sized water tank that will be useful in collecting and holding clean water meant for drinking since the water fetched from the rivers around are not clean enough exposing us to the risk of waterborne diseases. I am also glad that I used the small remaining amount in obtaining clothing and enough foodstuff for my family of three."

"It will be easy for me to go back to growing and selling vegetables like I previously did. I used to grow kales and tomatoes before the onset of this current drought. This got me good returns of up to 2000 KES per day, but currently, I'm just riding a hired motorcycle taxi that only fetches 700 KES a day except for weekends when I can make a maximum of 1500 KES. But of course, we still have to split this two ways between me and the motorcycle owner. With Givedirectly's money, I will buy a water tank and probably a water pump later on so that I can improve my scale of production and be involved in farming full-time."

"Would wish to venture into goat keeping. With KES 3000, I will be able to buy a goat each month. Since I work as a Boda Boda rider within the village, I have ample time to take care of them without seeking the help of an employed shepherd."
