"I created an agricultural objective after resolving the housing problem. Since crop cultivation has often failed us, I want to start raising livestock, especially goats. This is so that goats, as opposed to cows, can endure extreme climatic conditions. Goats have ready markets and are also inexpensive to purchase."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly did a great job which is evident from the transformation of my whole village. The unconditional cash transfers have enabled us to build decent iron-roofed houses, and own livestock such as goats, and cows, our children are also in school and most importantly a good number of us ran businesses. I can't single out anything that GiveDirectly did not do well so far."

"We plan to buy another cow which goes for about $100 to add on our livestock and we also plan to buy land to farm for our own consumption. Also the land is infertile so we plan on buying more fertilisers to put in our farms inorder ti gain more output."

"I am a teacher by profession waiting for a government placement, though at the moment I teach in a nearby school on a casual basis. I am married and together we are blessed with one child. Upon receiving my second transfer, I used $420 to buy a healthy dairy cow. This is because I wanted to cut on the high cost of buying milk where I use $5 per month for a cup of milk. Secondly, I started a grocery business for my wife where I used $3500. I knew that this would attract extra income. Thereafter, I bought hens and bought foodstuffs with the remaining amount. Achieving all this within a short period is a dream come true. This was not possible before because of the little income that I earn. I am so contented with the support that uplifted my living standards amazingly."

"The moment I received my first transfer, I prioritised buying a motorcycle to have a reliable source of income. I used to rent a motorcycle before, which was very hectic and what I earned was not enough in sustaining my family's daily needs. I, therefore, opted to buy a motorcycle on hire purchased where I used my first transfer as the down payment. Upon receiving my second transfer, I used $200 to pay for the motorcycle. Additionally, I bought a dairy cow worth $300 to reduce the cost of buying milk daily. Lastly, used the remaining amount on foodstuffs and clothes. I would not have achieved all this if I had not received the cash from the organization due to financial constraints, thus I am grateful."

Joel
received a second payment.
"I have been focused on running my livestock-selling business for the past five months because it has been my only source of income after a complete failure in farming due to the prolonged droughts. When I spent $170 to increase my running capital, I was able to add the stock and earn a higher profit every market day - thanks to GiveDirectly's assistance. This would help with household food purchases as well as paying a portion of my six children's school fees. I also spent $250 on a heifer to supplement the lactating cow I had on my farm. I plan to increase milk production from the two to generate more income through milk sales and offspring that can be sold to pay school fees and other household bills. I also used the remaining $100 to pay school fees for my son and daughter, who are in secondary school. I am grateful for the help that has transformed my family and boosted my business, which now earns me at least $20 profit in every market."

"I am still trying to raise the remaining $300 and three cows to clear the dowry with my in-laws. Despite the fact that my debt is still huge, I have a long-term household goal of opening a mobile money shop in a nearby shopping center. I intend to sell the bullock I purchased with my second transfer in a year's time, with the proceeds going toward raising the float and paying the first month's rent on the shop where I will be working. This goal will be a source of income that will cover the majority of my household expenses."

Joyce
received a second payment.
"My frequent hospital visits always require at least $50 per month, and paying school fees for my two children in secondary school has depleted all of my resources. When my children were sent home to collect school fees that I did not have, I was forced to sell the last cow I owned five months ago. I have been buying milk since then, which is currently $0.5 per liter. Since my children's final exams are at the end of the year, I have set a new goal of purchasing a dairy cow that will provide us with enough milk, reducing our daily milk expenses."
