Hussein
received a $496 initial payment.
"I spent a huge part of my first transfer on buying some spare parts for my motorbike which costed a total of KES 29000. For the last four months, it wasn't operating because some of the parts had worn out and I was forced to stay home jobless and sometimes engage myself in casual jobs with a meagre income. I also bought a new mattress at KES 55000 to replace the old one which no longer gave me the support I needed, because I could always feel some pains every morning. To add to that, I bought a wooden door to fix the initial one which was temporary. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family."

"Poverty! I have many problems with little income. I am a charcoal business woman and my husband has no job. I need to pay school fees for my children and feed thm.. Getting food and water is a big challenge in our area. All water pans have dried up and we depend on motorcycle operators to bring water from Bamba town which is more than 20 kilometres away and this commodity is very expensive. Each 20 liters jerican of water costs 100 KES."

"I will like to acqurie technical knowledge through a vocational school, if I received this cash transfer. I felt from a palm tree 4 years ago. With this, I am unable to do any physical work. Due to lack of support from our polygamous father, many of us (the kids) didn't acquire formal education. Sustainably, the technical knowledge will prepare me for the many life's challenges and creat a better future for me and my family. This could be a smart opportunity to develop myself as per my desire that due to lack of financial support couldn't be met for so many years."

"I am presently living in someone's house. Though I am treated fine here but I want my family to be in a secure area than being here where people interfere with my activities. When I receive this transfer, I will build a house for my family so that I can have my privacy and a place to also help me train my children.
I am a motorbike rider but I don't have the opportunity to buy a motorbike so my friend gives me his motorbike at the end of the day to run so that I can get something to sustain my family. So when I receive this money and build a house, I will then round up the balance to buy a second-hand motorbike. The money I will be making from the motorbike riding can be used to provide food and other things for my family."

"The major challenge for me here is how to raise money to do those things I mentioned earlier. As I said before, I am riding bike supporting the home, and saving some cash from the riding to be able to invest into business. But the bike riding is not giving me more money like before because I have Changed location as it relates to where I ride the bike - instead of riding in Monrovia and its environs , I am now riding in the communities around here. And that is not earning me money like before."

"Food insecurity is a big challenge in my house. My husband is unemployed and getting the daily bread is a big problem and sometimes I have to go to bed without food. Dressing and attending medical cases is a big problem in my house and also getting water for drinking is currently the biggest challenge because there is no water in the nearby water pans and getting water for drinking needs to hire motorcycle operators which cost 100 KES for a 20 liters jerican."
