"I used to keep my neighbor's cow in my field, which would greatly increase milk supply for my family of eight. My neighbor had to sell it a month before the transfer was received in order to pay for his children's school expenses. I had to let it go since I lacked the funds to purchase it in the hopes that the transfer would allow me to purchase another one. I had to wait until I got my second transfer, which I used to spend $350 on a nursing cow because none of my plans for the first transfer could cover additional expenditure on a cow. I am glad that the cow has given us a lot of milk to consume. I also used some of the leftover money to purchase food, spending $90 on two sacks of maize. The remaining money was then used to purchase new outfits for my six children. Following that, my entire family was grateful for the assistance provided by GiveDirectly. In our home, that caused a lot of change."

"I am a farmer, I rear cows, turkeys, chickens, and goats. The livestock helps me take care of my family, for example, the cows give me milk every day morning and evening, and the chickens give me eggs. In terms of food, my family is well taken care of. I have seven children, six are married and one is in college. Paying for my children's tuition fees has been a challenge and most days I sell my livestock to cater to it which is not always sustainable. Receiving this money has enabled me to build a permanent place for my livestock so that I can rear as many livestock as possible and sell them for commercial purposes."

"When I received my second transfer, used to ksh 27000 to pay school fees for two children, one in college and another in highschool, this reduced the arrears I had by almost half and my son in highschool will be allowed to be stay in school until the end of the term. I was also able to buy a cow with ksh 22000 and we have been getting 6 litres of milk each day where we sell 4 litres and consume 2 at home, at least now we have our own constant supply of milk instead of buying everyday and are able to buy enough food with the milk that we sell. I saved about ksh 5000 so that I can buy animal food for the cow."

"I'm planning to invest more on my dairy farming through buying more supplement for my cows so that they can improve their milk production from 10 litres per day to 20 litres. Accomplishing this means that I will be earning more income and I will be able to cater for all basic needs for my family without relying on my husband."

"With my second transfer that I got from Give Directly, I used ksh 35000 to buy a piece of land that I am planning to plant maize and mixed vegetables and I bought a cow with the remaining ksh 18000. Ever since we bought the cow, we have been supplying about 10 litres of milk locally everyday, that is 5 litres in the morning and 5 in the evening then we use the money from this to buy food every day. The maize and the vegetables that we planted will be our source of income to pay for other bills like school fees."

"I have a plan to purchase food with the transfers. I want to spend $50 for a bag of corn. This will help me continue providing food for my family for a few months as the year comes to a close. In addition, I want to buy a cow for $250 and 4 goats for $40 each. I'm getting older, and this will be my future investment, so it's quite significant. Since we can't grow any crops, the remaining money will be spent to fence our land, which has been impacted by livestock. This will help us to fence in the property so that the animals won't disturb the produce planting."

"The bulk of the transfers that I received from GiveDirectly went to improving my house. I had long intended to install a toilet and I was finally able to erect a pit latrine. Having ensured our home had been seen to, I proceeded to buy 2 local breed cows, male and female, in hope of starting a herd. I have 9 adult children, with 2 grand kids between them, hence they are all busy leading their lives and the funds from GiveDirectly allowed me to maintain my financial independence as a parent and not be a burden to my children. I till my 4 acre farm where I grow maize, beans and cassava, for myself and also my 6boys and 3girls, and their families. GiveDirectly gave me a chance to take control of my own destiny and I will eternally be grateful."

"I spent KES 36000 of the second transfer on buying a dairy cow which I added to one that I had before and one sheep at KES 8000. I am hoping that the two dairy cows will increase milk production in the future. This Increase will not only cut the cost of buying milk but also be an additional income generating source when I sell the surplus. I spent the last bit of the transfer buying food, household foodstuff, an extra piece of furniture, and kitchenwares that were missing in our home. I am grateful for the support from GiveDirectly and hope to keep improving the few projects we started. I also bought some new clothes for my two children."

"My new goal at the moment is to major on livestock farming more. I would wish to add some more dairy cows to my flock which will in turn mean that I get to supply more milk and earn a substantial amount of income from that. This will ensure that my family's basic need will be met effectively."

"With the transfers I received, I purchased 2 cows and 5 goats, with the aim of rearing them and selling them. While my husband is jobless at the moment, I have been growing maize and other cereals and selling them at Bamba Market for KES. 6,000 for a sack of maize and KES. 5,000 for other cereals. Between my 3 dependant kids and my grand child, both my husband and I would have been hard pressed to cater for their school fees. With the funds I partially paid for my 3rd, 4th and 5th Born's school fees, which comes to KES. 300 each per month and used the remainder of the funds to boost my business by buying charcoal for sale in the area. If GiveDirectly had not be as prudent as to send me those transfers, I dread to think how my husband and I would have made ends meet, since even food was partially catered for by the funds."
