"I have been struggling to raise enough money to enable me to build a decent house for my family and because I did not have enough resources to facilitate this, I had no option but to stay in the small house which was in a bad state to a point of collapsing. I am grateful to GiveDirectly because when I received my first transfer, I purchased enough iron sheets to start with as I wait to buy the remaining materials in order to build a decent house. My child had also been sent home due to the fee arrears that I couldn't pay on time. He is currently continuing with his studies after I cleared the balance that was outstanding. It gives me peace seeing him schooling without any interruptions concerning school fees anymore."

I will also pay school fees and provide scholastic materials for my children using this same money. "Receiving this money means my husband and I will be in position to take care of the education needs of my brothers-in-law. In most cases when we fail to pay school fees on time, they are sent out of school and yet my wish is that they study not only to get jobs but education molds one's life in all aspects including respect for others."

"My son had been sent home because of the outstanding fee balance that I wasn't able to clear on time. When I received my first transfer, I spent a portion of the money to clear the fee arrears and was allowed to continue with his studies without any further interruptions on school fees. I also bought building materials to construct a decent house since I could not access better shelter because the house I am currently staying is in not spacious enough and leaking when it rains. I am now in the process of constructing a new house for my family. I also bought six goats which I am currently rearing in my homestead. I am expecting that they will reproduce increase in number and have many of them. I can sell in future to raise more money to start a good business. On the remaining amount, I did some shopping for my children which included some clothing and also on foodstuffs and other household expenses."

"I spent the transfer to purchase a heifer at KES 16500, which I am currently rearing in my homestead. I am expecting it to reproduce and have many of them. I am hoping to sell the offspring to cater for my children's future education expenses since some are still young. I also paid for my children's school fees for them to continue with their studies without any interruptions. Apart from these, I also spent the transfer to purchase some building materials in order to construct a granary that will enable me to store my harvests when the time for harvesting comes, since my house is not enough for this purpose. I also bought an ox plough to use with my oxen to plough my farm. I spent the remaining amount to buy enough foodstuffs for my family, and also in paying for other household expenses."

"My life is good now, my heart is relaxed, I have peace of mind because I paid my children's school fees. I bought a piece of land and I have saved money in form of livestock which I hope to sell in future and construct an iron roofed house. Previously, I was doing business but the money I got was not enough to handle all the expenses that I had. I am so happy to GiveDirectly because they have uplifted families and children' s education. May God increase in GiveDirectly the grace to help those who have not got any help of this kind before."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received my transfer in that I have been able to pay school fees for my two children who is in secondary school . Before, I was so worried as they would be sent home and stay back home for so long as I could no afford to pay their arrears fees on time because my salary was meager to comfortably provide basic needs and pay their school fees at the same time. I then bought bedding and three mattress. We had been sleeping on an old slim mattress which were very uncomfortable. Personally , I never longed for the night to fall because I could not have a good night's sleep. When I woke up, my whole body could ache. Today , we are very happy and productive during the day since we do have enough rest . Thanks to GiveDirectly."
