"Receiving this money mean improved living standard to my household.I plan to spend Kshs.70,000- of the transfers to purchase a plot and establish my own home.I am currently living in a family compound of 3 acres and being a single mother it will be impossible for my child to have a share from it. I will use the remaining amount, to construct a house and pay school fees for my daughter."

"When I was in form one, my father suffered stroke. My family and I lived a very miserable life. Our living standard was very low. There was no food and school fees. Well wishers helped me finish school. That's the biggest hardship I faced."

"Receiving this money means food security to my family. I have 4 acres of land but I only do agriculture on 1.5 acres using the traditional method of farming. That is using a hoe. I harvest two bags of maize worthy 90kg each which only last for two months. I want to buy two oxen and a yoke for agriculture. The cost of the two cows and the yoke is Ksh. 57000. This will help me cultivate all the 4 acres . I WIll harvest approximately 8 bags of maize worthy 90kg each. This food will last for one year. I will use the remaining amount to pay school fees for my son who is in the university. His fee is Ksh. 70000 per semester."

"I have spent my transfers from GD on buying things like maize , fertilizer and blankets. I have bought fertilizer because this will help me with my farming so that I have enough food in my home . I bought blankets because I and my family did not have enough beddings in our home. The money was also used to pay school fees for my son who was chased from school since I did not have any money to pay his school fees. Lastly I have started building a house with the transfers from GD. I am staying in a small house that has a grass roof, but I am building a bigger house with iron sheet roof so that I and my family live more comfortably"

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the joy of getting back to school after being locked out of school for lack of school fees for more than a year. Being a single mother with one kid has been a great challenge raising my school fees. Casual jobs have been hard to find, and the only hope I had been having was finding a sponsor that never happened until GiveDirectly came in. Taking Certified Public Accounting sections 3 and 4 at the same time is quite a challenge but I have devoted myself to give it all now that I have paid all the school fees for the semester. I am grateful to GiveDrectly for the great support that I am now enjoying."

"I spent part 180 USD of my first transfer on clearing school fees for my two children who are both in secondary school. One had just joined and the other one was in his third year and we have really been straining to make them get a good education without being disrupted with an issue of school fees arrears. However most of the time this was not available. In addition to that, I bought iron sheets, timber, threads, and nails, and labor cost 180 USD. This was for the construction of a new house for my children who have been sleeping at their grandmother's house for all those years. I am using the remaining amount of money to buy foodstuff and other household items."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a heifer and a oxen. I do casual jobs at the construction sites. The amount of money that I get through this is so small and cannot meet all the basic needs of the family. I do not have a continuous source of income to enable me buy the livestock. The amount of money that I get from the casual jobs is for school fees and food. When I received the transfer I felt so happy and overwhelmed with joy. Currently I have invested on livestock project which has always been my dream. This will helps me in case of any emergency. Currently I intend to save money and buy more livestock. When they have reproduce and many in number I would sell them to pay school fees for my children. I hope to work hard and ensure that my children get the best education. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. I do small scale farming and I also operate a small retail shop. The profit that I get from this is so small and cannot meet all the household expenditure including paying school fees for my children. I didn't had another source of income neither did I had savings to enable me to buy a dairy cow. When I received this transfer I found it wise to invest on dairy farming. This has enabled me to cut the daily cost of buying milk from my neighbors which was so expensive for me. Currently I am able to save some money which I could have used to buy milk to pay school fees for my children in various schools. I have also devoted much of my time to this amazing dairy project. I hope to see it grow and learn from it. I also wished to own more that three dairy cows in the next two years. This will be my main source of income since I will be selling the surplus milk to earn an income. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard and given us hope to improve our living standard of our next generation."

"For many years, I have desired to start livestock rearing especially goat keeping so that I may have something to depend on whenever I am faced with financial challenges. I have not been able to accomplish this desire due to lack of finances to fulfill it. I spent $ 230 to purchase 5 goats this is because they are easy to keep, and they can withstand drought conditions, unlike cows. In addition, I bought a solar energy for lighting the house and charging my phone.I also charge my neighbours' phones at a fee. The remaining amount assisted me in acquiring food and paying school fees for my children."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer in that I am now assured of my children's education after paying their school fees in full. Previously, I did not have any money to support their educational need. In addition, I was able to construct a decent shelter, Back in the days, I use to reside in my small kitchen after my house collapsed and my kids us to be sheltered in my neighbour's house. Furthermore, I was able to start a reliable source of income by purchasing a dairy cow which will give a daily income once I start selling milk."
