"Receiving this money to me means a lot. I have children in different schools and getting this transfer will enable me to pay for their school fees. I also have a niece who is a partial orphan she did Kenya Certificate of Primary Education but she didn't proceed to secondary school due lack of school fees. So when I get this money i will be able to pay for her school fees."

"Receiving this money means access to education for my children. I have a family of six children who are attending school in a local primary school in the village. Most of the time, they are sent home due to lack of school fees. Raising the school fees for all the six children has been difficult because I do not have a source of a stable income. I depend on charcoal burning business which is not reliable as there are no longer trees for this business. Besides, I get very little amount of money of about $3 a day. This is not enough to cater for food and pay school fees for my children. I intend to use the first cash transfer from GiveDirectly to pay the school fee balances for my six children which is close to $ 10. I will then use the remaining amount of money to buy eight goats to keep as an investment for my children education."

"I have desired to invest in livestock because it is the only way I can save my money to earn a profit when I sell them after they multiply. Therefore I intend to start with 10 goats that will cost me $300 of my first transfer. The remaining amount of my first transfer will cater to food expenses and other household needs. With my second transfer, it will help me to buy a new bed and a mattress to replace the old ones which do not give me a nice sleep. I will further use the remaining amount to pay school fees for my grandchildren."

"Receiving this money means food security to my household since I plan to upscale my farming. This is because I always till 2 acres of land using a hoe and the much produce I normally harvest 4 bags of 90kg of maize, which last my family of 7for 4 months. I am planning to spend the utmost $400 of my first transfer to buy oxen and ox plough which will enable me to till up to 5 acres of land. This will ensure me getting more harvest to sustain my family of 5 for a long time of almost a year. The remaining of my first transfer I will use on household needs like food. With my second transfer, it will help me pay school fees for my 2 children in secondary school for the whole year so that they will not be sent out of school to collect school fees, this will improve their performance in school."

"Receiving this money means good education to my children. This has been my ambition to educate them so that they can have a bright future, but due to financial challenges, this dream has not come to pass. To achieve this I intend to spend 60,000 shillings to purchase a pair of oxen and 5 goats. The pair of oxen will enable me to cultivate a large piece of land during the rainy season and harvest enough food which I can sell the extra and pay for school fees. Also, I will hire them to cultivate people lands and earn 2500 shillings on each acre which is a source of income too. I will be able to sell the goats when they multiply and educate my kids. The remaining part of the transfer will invest in renovating the roof of my house which leaks during rainy seasons."

"Receiving this money means an improved living standard to my household. This is because I rely on casual labor-charcoal burning business which is tiresome, labor-intensive, and earns at most Kshs.1,200 per week which is not enough for my needs. I plan to spend a portion of the transfer to pay school fees for my children so that they get education. I will also spend Kshs.37,000 to buy two indigenous cows and ox plough that I will hire to my neighbors to earn a living. The remaining amount will help me cater to other basic needs such as food and medicine."

"I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on building a better and spacious house for my family. We used to live in a small grass thatched house which was leaking from inside. The house was so old and it was almost falling apart. Currently we live in a decent and spacious house with my family. I also bought a goat and paid school fees for my child who was starting school. The rest of money I bought food for the family."

"I spent my transfer to purchase a heifer worth $200. This will act as an alternative source of income for my family when it calves. Apart from the milk for our consumption, I will be using the income from the sale of surplus to pay school fees for my children. I spent the remaining $339 to purchase a piece of land in our neighboring county for my son. He has been living in this area for long and has been renting a house that he lives in as he goes to work. Purchasing this land will enable him to reduce his monthly expenditure and at least save something in his account since he is planning to build a house there hence he will not be living in a rented house anymore."

"I have made a major step in life ever since I received my transfer. This is because I have been able to pay school fees for my children on time, purchased a dairy cow and built a more spacious house for my family. Due to this, my children are no longer being sent home regularly to collect fee arrears like before and in addition, they currently have enough time to study in the evening as they no longer have to leave home early going to sleep in our neighbors house as they now sleep at home. Also, my dairy cow is almost giving birth and I will have enough milk for our consumption and even sell the surplus at the market and use the money earned to pay school fees for my children."
