Most of the goals that I had in mind I fortunately got achieve through the help of GiveDirectly. For instance I cleared my debt in school fees for my children which was stressing me and I also managed to buy a cow which I had wanted for the longest time but could not afford it at the time.

I am very glad and grateful for the funds and help I received from this program because it helped to prioritise and finish up on the things and amenities that were most important concerning my family and for that I say thank you because it has changed a lot in my family in a very short time.

After I received the money I went ahead and bought a cow because I had wanted one for the longest time so that it would benefit me both commercially and domestically especially when it came to helping me in the farm. Therefore I purchased the cow at KES 30,000. Then I also decided to pay tuition fee for my children and I paid a total of KES 18,000 for the two of them to clear the debt of the entire term. Apart from that I also took care of nutrition and I bought fifty kilograms of rice for KES 4,400 because the festive season is upon and I just want to be prepared for it.

I received the message bearing the good news of the first transfer early one morning when I was still doing my usual household cleaning before picking on the main chores of the day. The message changed the mood of the day as I wasn't expecting such a piece of great information in the morning. I was alone then since my husband had been out to work since the start of the month and my kids were also out to school. I had to call him, and all he could advise me was to work with the plan we already had as he was much aware of the program after highlighting and enlisting the priorities before he left home early that month.

The biggest difference in my daily life is the construction of a spacious modern storage facility that will soon enable me to move luggage that has been filling my living room when I had no extra space to put them. This will also save me plenty of expenses that I had been making in hiring a place to store my harvests and in turn, will use the money in other running projects in my household.

With the increased farming practices I had been doing in the recent past, I had been having lots of problems hiring a place to store my harvest, and at times forced to sell them with any available market price even when it's low. I had been hoping for a while to accumulate profits from the farm produce to enable me to construct a store within my homestead. This has never been that possible due to other pressing needs within the family. On receiving the first transfer, I saw it as an opportunity to dedicate an appreciable amount to facilitating the construction of a modern storage facility. I managed to obtain 18 iron sheets, timber, and strong building posts and after settling the labor charges, I had already spent a total of KES30000. I am glad that the construction work is soon coming to an end, and definitely will drastically reduce the cost of hiring any other facility, and will even allow me to make good market scrutiny before selling any harvest. I also paid KES9000 towards school fees for one of my children currently in a private primary school and used the remaining amount on buying clothing for my children, and also obtained extra foodstuff for my household.
