"Sheep and goats' business is what I have been relying on for the past three years. However, last month was the hardest time in my business. Two of my children just joined secondary school where I had to use my business capital to pay their school fees. This has brought my business to almost on its knees. Receiving this money means that I can regain it. I will spend about KES 20,000 to circulate in the business. I hope to return my profits to about KES 1000 per week.I will also buy my own livestock to rear at a cost of KES 40,000. This will increase my daily income from farming from KES 100 to about KES 200 that will be enough to provide my household with food."

"From the time my husband passed on in the year 2019 I stopped working as a waiter in a hotel at Kaboson. I have been working on my farm planting, weeding and harvesting the various food crops we plant here such as maize ,beans and sweet potatoes. Our farms have not produced good yields in the past few years due to effects of drought and diseases . Therefore this money will enable me meet the basic needs of my family such as food ,shelter and clothing. I shall buy five sacks of maize and beans for my family at an estimate costs of KES 20000.This will take us through a long period of time of being food secure. I shall also built a good house to accommodate my family members and visitors as you can see this one is quite small and old. The house will cost me KES 30000 and for the remaining amount I shall use KES 20000 to pay school fees for my two kids in secondary school .This amount is the cost for a whole year for both my kids ,I shall have adequate time to relax and save more for next year."

"I primarily depend on livestock keeping to meet my family needs thus I always struggle to see that my farming improves. I am planning to spend KES30000 to buy a dairy cow to add to my herd since this is an added asset and when it calves down I will have more milk for both household consumption and sales to earn more income which will, in turn, help me educate my children. I wish to use another KES30000 to renovate my current house. I live in a semi-permanent house and its walls have started cutting off the making it look old uncomfortable to stay in. After renovating these walls I will be again be assured of my comfy and safe house for my family. In addition, I will use another KES28000 to pay my children's school fees. This will enable them to have a good time to study and I also enjoy humble minds as I look for money to settle next year's fee. I will use the remaining amount on farming to buy some farm inputs and household daily basic needs."

"Receiving this money means better housing for my family. I plan to use this money to complete the house I started building a year ago. We were forced to move in when it was incomplete because the previous one is made of iron sheet, it gets too cold at night and too hot during the day. The current one is also cold because it doesn't have windows and it's insecure. This will cost me KES 50,000. For the rest of the amount, I plan to pay school fees for my son joining university."

"I am a livestock farmer, mainly keeping some goats and cows. However poor rainfall makes it very difficult to have a profitable venture from simply grazing the animals on the land. The only way is to improve how to do it by having a water storage tank and a chaff cutter that will make more feeds available for livestock, mainly from crop residue such as maize stalks. But I focus on education for my children whereby, I spend all my income from a small business on paying school fees. To improve my farm, I will spend about KES 30,000 on a Chaff cutter and KES 30,000 on a plastic water tank. I expect to increase my milk production from 10 liters to about 30, bringing my income to about KES 30,000 per month. I will be able to meet my child's education needs using this and also improve my home by building a better house."

"I bought this land when my matrimonial parents didn't accept me to marry their son. My husband and I decided to move out and so we bought this land. I need to expand it since the owners are selling another piece of land near my house. I need to buy 0.2 acres each cost KES 25000. I would also like to buy dairy cow this will cost around KES 30000. The rest of the money will go to school fees for the coming terms."

"Farming has been a big let down in this region due to prolonged drought. This has led to lack of food and less income since it is very unreliable. I try supplementing farm activities with preparing and selling charcoal. This is usually a long and tiresome process that earns so little. I have a wife and 8 children all looking up to me to support all their needs. This has been very hard. As we speak my children have been sent home for school fees. Little and unreliable income to support the family's needs is my biggest hardship."
