Janeth
received a $501 initial payment.
"It has always been my dream to expand my dairy project that I have but had not been able to due to lack of finances. I own one dairy cow and the milk we usually get is for consumption. When I received my transfer, I decided to spend KES 25000 to actualize my dream through buying a dairy cow. When it calves, my family will have enough milk for consumption and sale to earn an income that I can use in buying some of our basic needs. Also, I operate a small kiosk in our neighborhood and this business was almost collapsing as I had been spending my capital and all the profits on our basic needs without restocking it. Currently, I am glad that I was able to spend KES 10000 from my transfer to restock it and it is back on its feet. In addition to these, I spent KES 3000 on farming by hiring a tractor to help me in land preparation purposes, KES 2000 to pay school fees for my children who had been sent back home and used the remaining KES 14000 on food and clothes."

"My wife business collapse and the tailoring job I was doing couldn't maintain my family. My children are out of school because, I do not have money to pay their fees and the coal I burned, I give it out to people and they pay me after (2) weeks.
Getting money to pay my children school fees and starting a business for my wife is my major challenge now."

""We will pay the children school fees for the coming year of we will get the money. This year farming is not good for us because of the too much rain. So at least if God help us and our name come up we will pay for the children school"."

Elizabeth
received a $501 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer in repaying a debt of KES 35000 for a piece of land in the neighboring village. I opted to prioritize this because the current one is no longer productive and very small ( one acre) . As a result, I have been harvesting low yields which led to a prolonged famine in my household. Later on, I paid school fees (KES 10000)for my son who is in his second year and bought stationeries as well as clearing fees for those in primary school at a total of KES 2000. Also with the remaining amount, I bought foodstuff like bags of maize, beans, vegetables, utensils, and other household items that I was lacking."

received a $501 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own two dairy cows which I keep in my compound. For many years, I could not afford to buy a single cow despite yearning to own them. However, after receiving the transfers, my desire was finally fulfilled. I know through these cows, I will be benefitting from the milk that they will be producing. I will sell to the local dairy shops and local restaurants where a liter goes for KES 50, thus earning some cash. My plan is to save the money purposely for my three children's fees once they transition to high school or even college. This to me is currently the best investment because it's a source of income that I can rely on instead of depending on my spouse's meager earnings of KES 200 a day. I am glad that I will no longer strain in raising school fees for my children, courtesy of GiveDirectly"

"I thank God that GD has come to our village. Some of my children are still schooling and it has been very hard for me to provide all necessary materials. I will use the money to buy them clothes, notebooks and pay school fees.
I also intend to finish my house such that I will buy iron sheets and all needed items. I will also buy food and also use the money in buying medicine for my sick mother. I am so grateful for the enrollment."
