"I have two children who are in school and because we earn very little money with my husband, it has been a routine that they are sent home for school fees, we have been thinking of what we can as a family for us to pay the money for school on time, that's the reason we look forward to start a business for us to supplement."

"The biggest hardship I have ever faced is a lack of money. This is because the little return from selling charcoal is not sustainable for all the basic needs of my family. Due to this, I have been struggling to pay school fees for my children. Sometime, my children stay home and miss lessons due to fees. Something that makes me feel sad."

"Receiving this money means a specious house for my family. Due to financial challenges I have not been able to build a big house that can accommodate my house hold of nine members. I always get embarrassed sharing a one bed room house with my children which is against our tradition. I plan to spend KES 30,000 to construct a two bed room house.I will also use KES 28,000 to buy two indigenous cows and an ox plough to cultivate my farm and hire to my neighbors for income.
The remaining amount will help me cater for other basic needs such as school fees and food."

"Seeing my children excel in life has been my priority and due to this, I have always ensured that I support them in their education by paying their school fees on time. Recently, I was so worried on how to get money to use in paying school fees for my daughter who was about to sit for her end of semester examinations. I am glad that the transfer came on time as I was able to spend KES 32400 to clear her school fees arears. In addition, I spent KES 6000 to buy food and other hold necessities for my family. I am planning to use the remaining KES 16000 to purchase some timber and iron sheets to use in building a house for my goats. I settled on this so that I will convert their current house to be a chicken coop as I am planning to start a poultry project."

"I foresee my children academic performance improving. They miss out on a lot when they have been sent away from school and I can’t raise enough school fees in time. In some instances, they have missed school for an entire week. It has been sad to see their performance drop. I plan on using the monthly transfers to clear the arrears and see their dreams come alive."

"I am a mother of six primarily depending on subsistence farming to meet my family's needs. I never got to pursue education a goal that I have lived to regret about but I have focused on educating my children to ripe the beauty of education that I missed. Receiving a cash transfer to me means I will be in a position to pay my children's school fees since I am planning to use KES50000 to clear their arrears and next terms fees. I am certain this will give them ample time to study thus achieve good grades that can take them to good secondary schools and colleges. On the other hand, I will be at peace as I look for more to meet future terms fees and settle other daily household needs."

"The biggest hardship is a lack of finances. I dropped out of school due to a lack of school fees. After a while, I just decided to get married 13 years ago as I thought we will be helping each other with my spouse. This is when life got even harder when we began siring children and my family expanded. I now have five children, all in school looking up to me as the breadwinner. The work I do is very unsustainable, I earn at most KES 7000 a month which cannot meet my needs."

"When I get this money I will buy a dairy cow. I used to have cows but my son got sick and I had to sell them to pay for his treatment. His sickness deprived us of all the investment we had made though we thank God for healing him. A good dairy cow will cost around KES 30000. I also need to buy sheeps, so that I will sell them in future to pay school fees for my children. 2 sheep each costing KES 4500 is good to start with. The remaining amount I will use to pay school fee for my children."

"It was at 9 am when I was at my working station when I heard my phone vibrating loudly, I was a bit hesitant in checking my phone because I thought maybe it was a message from my children's school reminding me to pay for the school fees arrears, my workmate told me that he had received cash from GiveDirectly that morning because he too was registered, that was when I rushed to check the message that was in my phone, I was so overjoyed to confirm that I too had received the money, we all celebrated throughout the day with endless touches of laughter."

"I have four children who attend one of the nearest public primary schools. They study hard in school but raising school fees has always been a problem. I am unemployed and my husband, our breadwinner, engages in casual jobs in the village. His daily earning of 400 KES is not enough to buy food and cater for the fees. Receiving this money means that my children will get a chance at continued school attendance as I will clear the huge debt that has accumulated so far. At some point, I plan to start a small food business in the village and save the rest so I can enrol my daughter in secondary school once she clears primary school."
