"It's a high risk going over the sea to fishing just to make sure I find food for my children and send them to school. At times I find it difficult catching fish due to the roughness of the sea and condition of my canoe which allows water to enter it why fishing. If am selected to be a direct beneficiary of Give Directly money transfer, I will buy a new Canoe, pay my children school fees and fix mud house due to its condition. Getting a newer canoe will enable me catch enough fish which I will sell to generate money to sustain my family."

"My life has been full of sorrows and for a long time now, nothing significant was going on in my life and I had lost hope. As a single parent who has been depending on selling charcoal in the local market, I could not make long time goals since I could squander all my income in catering for my daily needs. On a good day, I used to earn KES 200. This was not enough in sustaining my family's needs and pay school fees for my two children. I had been yearning to at last own a piece of land since the current one was for my friends who could sometimes change and demand some money. I would at times be threatened to be thrown out if I couldn't pay. I never had peace because I didn't have anywhere to run to. Apart from that, during the planting seasons, I was not able to do any farming because at times I could not afford to lease land. This eventually facilitated the prolonged poverty and unavailability of food in my household. I am now a happy mother because I am even planning to build a new hose on this piece of land that I had already bought using the transfers. I will start practicing farming and I believe that through this my children will no longer starve like before. All these achievements are the biggest difference in my life."

"We have a relatively vast land for grazing. Although it is not productive there are alot of pasture, we border the maasai community who also posses large tracts of land for grazing and we coexist harmoniously in sharing the resources. It is against this backdrop that we intend to purchase more indigenous goat to take advantage of the availability of pasture. This will boost our disposable income in future especially paying for school fees. We intend to spend approximately KES 40000 in purchasing the goats. The rest of the money will go towards purchase of indigenous cows ."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now have some investments that I can rely on in educating my children. I am a subsistence farmer and sometimes getting money to use in paying school fees is difficult. Due to this, owning some goats is advantageous since apart from increasing in number over a short period of time, they can easily be converted to cash. I will be selling one when faced with financial challenges after exhausting all possible means."

"I was not fortunate enough to pursue my education but I want my daughter to prosper in her's.I'm a single mother of one and I stay with my niece. They both depend on me for their education. Since they are day scholar's they have to come back in the evening and do their homework at the house, bit I have no electricity nor a solar panel to aid in studying through the night. Sometimes they have to stay in School till late so as to use the school's electricity but I fear for their safety. I hope to use an amount of KES 17,000 for a solar panel to help in lighting and phone charging, KES 20,000 on their School fees and other school expenses. As for the remaining amount I will use on buying wiring equipment to build a house for my chicken and food for the family."

"Receiving this money will mean water security for my family. We live in an arid area and it doesn't rain often. I have 5 children living with me while one has his own family. Because they are in Scholl it means my wife has to go fetch water to be used at home at a local stream. The stream is about 5km from our home and the terrain is hilly. She has to do this everyday and it's exhausting to her, that is why this money will help us in purchasing a big water tank worth KES 20,000. The water tank will be used to store rain water collected from our iron roofed house when it rains, the water can also be fetched just once in a week, stored to be used for a whole week. This will save us from walking for a distance everyday to collect it. The remaining amount of the transfer I'll use to pay school fees for my children and buy a dairy cow and 2 goats that will serve as future investments."
