received a $25 sixth payment.
"I was really happy to realize that the Organization had finally sent out the transfers, especially because at the time nourishment was quite a challenge. Therefore, I went ahead and spent KES 2,000 by purchasing ten packets of maize flour, three kilograms of beans, sardines and also drinking water because it was scarce due to drought. I ended up remaining with a balance of KES 1,000 which I proceeded to put away in my savings account because I was hoping after the money accumulates I could eventually do some renovations to my house since it was almost collapsing."

"Drought has caused a water shortage in our village. People walk for 6km looking for water. It takes two hours to and from the water source at Forodhoyo. Upon receiving my money, I plan to connect a water tap from the main line to my home. This water will be for family use and also for business. I have a wide market for the water business because I will be the only person selling water in the village. The cost of connecting the tap is $ 200. I will also buy two water tanks for $ 400 and labor for $ 100. I will be selling approximately 100 plastics of water daily making an income of $ 10. It will be a good business for my family. Thanks to Give directly for making my dreams true."

"Drought and hunger are problems we all dream of curbing through agriculture. Although I have a 1-acre piece of land that I often cultivate, I have always admired going large scale but financial constraints have been a breach. When I receive the transfers, I intend to purchase an additional 1acre piece of land at KES 80000. I will be glad to cultivate tomatoes and watermelons in a surplus. The profits from tomato farming are double the expenses, this attracted my attention to venture into this farming. I will use the profits to purchase an additional piece of land and engage in business (apiary, dairy and goat rearing ). I am a business-minded fellow and I wish my wife Precious, could also have a source of income hence assisting each other in raising the family."

"At the moment, I don't have any New goals since I'm still working on building my house. Before coming in contact with GiveDirectly, My life was in a very bad condition,my family and I live in a two room house with grass thatches as it's roof.
When ever rain falls, we place dishes in every leaking spot to help hold the water. This condition cause us to have sleepless night, thereby making my kids to get sick.
Now that I'm receiving financial assistance from GiveDirectly my life will improve greatly. I will continue with my plan of building a better shelter for my family."

received a $25 sixth payment.
"I am nineteen years old and in form four at Mnazumwenga Secondary school. It's been three days since I was out of school due to school fee arrears. I have an accumulative debt of $80 and the school won't let me go back before paying. My father fetches water for the neighbor at $3 a pitcher. In a day he fetches ten pitchers and he uses the money to buy food for my family. My mother produces charcoal, she produces two sacks a week and sells at $4 which helps pay school fees for myself and my six siblings. My parent struggles to pay school fees for all of us but the transfer we got last month has eased the burden, all the other siblings are in school as I wait for my next transfer to pay the arrears and go back to class."

"I am self-employed and use a cart (small open vehicle) to supply water. I sell water in 20litres plastic jerrican to Mosques, Schools and Restaurants. I have six children, but only two are in school. The rest are all grown and dependent. The money I received from the support program, which was $30, was spent on buying six pieces of iron sheets. Since I got enrolled, I have been working on how to repair my roof, which has old iron sheets that are rusty and leak during heavy rains. I am grateful because after the roofing contractor came to analyze and give a quote for the work to be done. He said that he needed twenty-five pieces of iron sheets in order to repair my two-roomed house."

received a $10 initial payment.
"This was the first time receiving transfers from Givedirectly which was $12. I spent the transfer to pay school fees for my child who is in grade four a total of $4 and bought food and water at $4. I produce charcoal and my husband takes it to the market for sale. Each week I produce three sacks which I sell at $3 a sack. The profits from the business are used to buy food and water for my family. My husband and I help each other and some days are better than others. Whenever we produce more than seven sacks of charcoal he takes it to the nearby market and sells it at $7 a sack, this helps pay school fees for my seven children."

"I work as a broker between the charcoal buyers and those who prepare the charcoal in the forest. Recently, elephants came in our community looking for water and pasture. This is due to the drought in the national park. The existence of elephants has scared the charcoal burners to go in the forest. That has an effect on my work. I have a round three months without job now. That is the challenge I am facing."
