"If I'm successful to receive transfer from Givedirectly, I will use so of the money to pay my tuition fees and use the balance to start a business which I have been struggling to do. Eventhough I make garden to sustain myself, the money I earn from the garden isn't enough to pay my tuition fees and start a business. I have to drop out of school because of that. Since my father passed out, I don't have anyone to take care of me.im doing everything for myself."

"I will construct a little decent house for myself and also upgrade the little business I am doing, if I do receive the cash grant form GiveDirectly. It has been my plan to build my own house but it has just been challenging to begin the process due to lack funding. My brothers and I lived in our grandmother's old house that is very deplorable now. In effort to support my plan of have a house constructed, I have made a very large cassava farm to get some building materials after the harvest. I have an eleven (11) year old daughter who is going to school. When I upgrade the business, it will help to keep her in school and also take care of our very day's wants and some times needs."

"I have had many goals set and have also been able to achieve them since entering into this program. One of the key goals I have had is to own some livestock which would be as part of business as also provide for the family. I thought that by buying some goats I would have a place to get money whenever my children needed school fees and I didn't have any money. I would sell them and pay for the school fees. I was able to buy 12 goats each ranging from KES.3200-3500. Another goal was to have my own comfortable house which I was also able to get through these transfers." (Occupation: Small business)

"I was on my way to school where I am currently working as a teacher when I received a message confirming the receipt of my first transfer. I was filled with joy knowing that the business project we have been hoping to improve was soon going to work out. I thanked God and informed my husband that I had received the amount we had been expecting. He was so excited as well and since we had already made up our minds to save as we await the second transfer, he advised me not to transfer it to our saving account."

"I had already started building my house and was not done yet when the second transfer came in. It came just in time as I needed to buy the roofing materials and also to find the construction worker who also needed to be paid to finish up the roof. So when the money came in I divided it to cater to the materials and the laborer's pay. Once done the little left I was able to buy beds which was a nice change from sleeping on the floor." "With my family of five, fetching enough water every day from the river - far away from our village - has been so hard. This had been my responsibility as all my children are still schooling and only come home late in the evening. Ensuring that I avail enough water to enhance their cleanliness and also for the home use has been a struggle, and a day hardly goes by without a prayer for a breakthrough that will enable us to get easy access to a water source. Upon receiving the first transfer, my first call was to obtain a large water tank that will be collecting rainwater conveyed by the gutters set beneath the edge of the roof. With the hiked prices at the market at the moment, I managed to secure a 3000-liter plastic tank at KES22500. I am setting it up at the moment as I await the onset of rain. I also had to obtain a sewing machine that I had been hoping to purchase after completion of my tailoring course two years ago. This has so far given me a chance to start a home-based sewing business that has given me hope of seeing it grow to give my family an extra source of income. I am glad that even though I got a second-hand machine at KES18000, I have gotten approvals from other tailors that it is one of the best that may not be in the market at the moment. With the remaining amount, I managed to improve my farm operations after buying certified seeds, clothed my three children, and also obtaining foodstuff for my household."
