"The biggest difference in my daily life is that my stress is reduced since GD payments just made it possible for our Solar lighting services by Safaricom Company to be resumed and our children are able to study for long hours in the night, unlike the time when the service got discontinued due to non-payment of the daily Installments since life had become more difficult financially. In addition, my family is no longer spending much on kerosene as was the case when the family went back to using kerosene lamps."

"I spent 40,000 KES of my third transfer on plastering our three room house which we built using our second transfer. My wife and I never had a house and lived in one of the rooms in my mother's house for many years, which is supposed to be a taboo according to Luo traditions and customs. Because of this, I suffered a lot of embarrassment and insult from the community since this is supposed to be an abnormal behaviour. It was all because my family suffered under the yoke of extreme poverty and nothing could happen since we felt hopeless and were unable to engage in any productive work. Consequently, I could not afford even a small hut for my wife and children. Due to GD support, today we have our own home. And by the way, this got us both very motivated and my wife started a part time small scale business with 1,000 KES in August and she sells vegetables, tomatoes and fruits. Today the business has grown 7 times to the tune of 7,000 KES, not to forget that our family feeds from this source. Again, because GD support gave me the drive, I invested 5,000 KES of my second transfer in land preparation and maize farming on 1.5 ace piece of land and as we talk, our maize crop planted in August is ready for harvest. We expect about 10 bags of dry corn, which had never happened before. I thank you GD, our lives are transformed through GD financial support that enabled my family to get our own home with solar lighting, a business and the motivation to arise and do productive work for a better future."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that i have become a happy person because i eat well, I stocked enough food for the family ,previously it was very had to get food because there was no money and most of the time my family starved. I used to sleep uncomfortably on the mud floor,I did not have a mattress so I used a mat for sleeping, but now I sleep confortably on my mattress and a bed and I was able to cement my floor. I also used not to have any source of light at night, this would make me go to bed early before it gets dark but now days I have solar light and I go to bed at will. "

"I spent my third transfer on expanding my existing tailoring business by introducing clothing materials for 10,000 KES to enable customers who interested in new clothes have a variety when they come for tailoring services. I also diversified by introducing 2 bags of dry corn for 8,500 KES and 5 bags of charcoal for 4,000 KES, which I display just outside my tailoring kiosk. To date I have managed to grow the charcoal business by additional 3 bags, to a total of 8 bags, and the corn business to a total of 3 bags. My life has so changed that these days my family no longer sleeps hungry unlike when I only did tailoring business as a service, since when people are experiencing famine and low income, they do not make clothes and instead they spend every coin they have on food especially dry corn. Charcoal also sells because it is a reliable cooking energy in this area. I spent the rest of the money on an MKOPA solar panel for 23,000 KES. It charges phones and a radio, and in addition my child uses the lighting for studies for long hours these days due to solar light reliability and availability. Things are different from before when we used kerosene, and because I was not making much, there were times my child could not study at night due to lack of kerosene resulting from my low and unreliable income. In fact life is good these days, thank you."

"I spent my third transfer on enlarging my once small house for 25,000 KES since I never had enough space and my visitors had to sit outside the house before I enlarged.I also bought a solar panel with Television for 10,000 KES deposit. The solar light has particularly saved me from paraffin expenses which was burdensome since our son is a Fourth Form candidate and had to be finishing his school work every night using kerosene."
