Phoebe
received a $521 second payment.
"I spent second transfer in paying college fees for my daughter who was in teacher's Training Institute and was having an outstanding fees balance which I was unable to settle. I appealed to relatives to assist me in clearing my daughter's fees but this did not yield any fruit. I am a strong believer that education is an everlasting investment."

Michael
received a $521 second payment.
"i have spent my second transfer in renovation of my house because the house i used to have was very small and could not accommodate the number of my family, this has generated some ill perceptions as people were mocking me that for how long will I stay in that small house. I also leased a parcel of land for sugarcane planting since, sugarcane farming is the economic activity in our area and it fetches good income. I believe that this will enable me to generate good money for my children's education fees."

"I feel encouraged and peaceful in my life especially on matters pertaining to paying school fees for my daughter. I am a person of value, no longer a village begger that would be called bad names but a good example that others wish to emulate. I feel happy when people talk of good chairs in my house and education of my daughter."

Kaka
received a $540 initial payment.
"The fact that I was unable to clear for my sons' school fees on time made me have sleepless nights as I had been applying for bursaries and my efforts didn't bear any fruits. I am a casual labourer and my income is not enough to gather for my children's education and since Givedirectly came to us, I was able to clear the university fees and my son now has been allowed back to school. To me, this is the biggest difference the money has brought into my daily life."

Kazungu
received a $540 initial payment.
"On receiving the first transfer, I spent part of it to purchase two dairy cows to keep in my home. It was my desire to at least have some livestock in my compound but due to inadequate finances to buy them, I could not own even a single one. I am happy that Give Directly has enabled me to fulfill my desire of owning them and my aim now is to allow them to reproduce so that I can have a large herd and to trade them in the future. The cows will also be providing milk for family consumption and also for selling to earn an income. In addition to this, my children's education is also sorted as I will use the money I will get from the sale of milk to pay their school fees. I also bought a new mattress and a new bed to sleep on since I was sleeping on an old traditional bed and my beddings were used sacks and worn out clothes which I could not sleep comfortably. I used the remaining amount to purchase a new bed for my children so that they can enjoy a good sleep since their old bed was also in a bad state."

Emmy
received a $522 second payment.
"I am so grateful that Give directly came in handy to assist the needy in the society. all the residents of the village benefited from the transfers as long as they were full time residents of the village. Education attained from barazas was so helpful to us. I do not see anything bad that did not go down well with me or with the other villagers as far as the operations are concerned."

Muse
received a $522 second payment.
"Paying school fees has been one of my greatest challenge as a parent. On several occasions, i have had my children dependent on neighbors mercies and well wishers to help raise school fees for my children. I have no formal employment to give me enough earnings to pay their school fees. Our land is also largely arid and we only do subsistence farming. Give directly has renewed my hopes and aspirations of giving my children the best education i can. i believe they will clear school and live better lives."
